The camellias and tulips make a lino show In the pots and-fetch handsome prices, but when the purchase is taken home, the dow ers arc found to bo attached to the stalks with lino wire. —On tho island of Kauai, Stun I which Islands, is found a kind of sand which, it is said, If stuck together in tho hands, produces a sound like the hooting of an owl. Sounds can be made with it resembling thunder, which can be heard many hundred yards away. The socrot of the mat ter is that the sand is composed of coral perforated with resonant cavi ties. —An obsolete statute of George Seoond imposes a line of one shilling per oath on day laborers, common soldiers, sailors, or seamen; every other person under tho degree of u gentleman has to pay two, and every person of or above that degree five. A conviction recently took place un der this act, the reluctant magistrates having been pointed to tho fact t hat tho same act imposes a penalty of live pounds on any magistrate failing to enforce it.
