The .HarrlßKealilr Airr.
A comparative statement has been
published ot the ages at which mar
riages are legal in the several States
of Europe, which is interesting and
suggestive. Therels.lt is to lie ob
served, a marked difference in regard
to the legal restriction between the
Northern and Southern countries,
being the result, no doubt, ]>urtly of
moral but mainlv of physical reasons, j
The Danish or Russian youths are |
several years slower than th© Italians |
or Spaniards iu rouohing physical i
puberty. In Russia marriage cun not
bo legally contracted until the males
are eighteen and the females sixteen, j
and in Denmark until the males arc i
twenty and the females eighteen. On
the other hand, Spanish youths may
marry at fourteen and twelve, and it
is the same at Greece and Hungary. I
Italy, at a oomparitively rooeut date, |
lias become more liberal and pro
gressive, and the standard has been
raised, being now eighteen and fifteen
respectively. The highest standard
is found of Baden and Hesse Drams
tadt, where u man must be twenty
live and a woman twenty-one before
they can legally marry. The marital
legislation of the south of Europe
seems to have been generally'based
on purely physical considerations,
while that of the North has taken in
to account mental ami moral maturi- j
tv, and the capacity to engage in :
business, and thus' support a family.
Tlie paternal care of the German gov
ernments for the social well-being of
their subjects is especially apparent.
Franco has, like Italy, raised the
standard of age, which is now placed
at eighteen and fifteen respectively,
and this is the general tendency.
“That, ar’ patch of ground’s mem
’rible,” said an Omaha man, pointing
to a grave all by itself outside of the
town. “I reekin you’ll know that,
stranger, when you see it ag’in. The
ockpant of that was the fust man
Horrus Greeley ever told to git West
—likewise he was hung for stealin’ a
mewl.”
Murk Twain says: “I have seen
slower people than I am—even quiet
er, and more listless, aud lazier than
I atn. But they were dead.”

Jordan's Joyous Julep.
A Specific for Neuralgia.
TESTIMONIALS.
Petebhburo, Va., Jan. 20th, 1875.
John L. Jordan, Esq.—Dear Sir: So well pleased
am I with your Joyous Julep, that I hereby tes
tify to the superior merit of your unequaled
preparation for Neuralgia. I shall esteem my
self happy should even one of that worst of all
classes of sufferers be led through me to take the
Julep. My wife has lor ten (10) years been a mar
tyr to the most malignant ami persistent neural
gic torture, without being able to find any relief
except from your preparation. Hhe was relieved
by the second dose as per directions, and has not
had a return of it for two months. To some I
may seem strangely sanguine about your medi
cine, but I have a right to Ik*, ho. It is not rea
sonable to suppose this malignant malady would
have died of sheer exhaustion of capacity for
sustaining itself, and that too in a minute, and
the very minute your medicine was taken. If so,
it is a most remarkable, simple coincidence, and
I prefer giving the credit in your favor of the
best testimony man can ever have—experience,
Vary truly yours,
JAMJEB T. TOBH.
Columbus, January 16,1875.
Mr.Jordan:—! take great pleasure in recom
mending your Joyous Julep for neuralgia,
has produced a most wonderful relief In one oi
the severest attacks of neuralgia my daughter
ever has had. She has been treated for it by
three skillful physicians, with very little benefit,
aud used all the usuaFteinedies with little suc
cess. I can with much confidence hope for a per
manent cure. It is only two days since we began
the use of It, and it is apparently of permanent
benefit. Yours, with respect,
MRS. L. I-NORMAN.
