The outluuk mi- General Trade.
As to theoutlook for gonoral trade :
Among merchants wo liml a settled
conviction that the autumn business
will be fairly good : that it will show
more improvement, than any season
since the panic. This is the opinion
of those who have not looked for
rapid improvement at any time since
thepanie. The reason in this way:
The crops will probably be above
the average, both cotton and cereals.
For cotton the demand may not belts
large as it has been, but a hot prion
for cotton will stimulate manufac
tures. For grain the ehanoos are
that we shall have a better foreign
market than since the panic year.
Good crops and a market for them
mean that the wherewithal to bay
goods will lie in hand. The currency
question will probably be answered,
but it is doubtful if the policy to re
sume iu 1879 is interfered with.
Should it be, the door to temporary
activity would be opened, and trade
would become feverishly active by
reason of the apprehension of such a
depreciation in the currency as
would make it less desirable to hold
than what it will buy. lint really
there seems little chance for this un
worthy way of stimulutug trade,
particularly when even politicians j
ought to know that it will surely
lead to a greater dtsister than any
that has overtaken the country, the ;
steps towards resumption may he
slowly taken under the present treas
ure policy, but if the face of the
Government is kept in the direction
of s|iecie payment and then is any
progress, there is something to be
thankful for. The best informed
opinion is that this will be the ease;
and that under it there will be a
steady, but perhaps slow improve- 1
ment, the coming autumn months I
showing more than any which have
receded them. -V Y. A’tem'a \ /'os/. ;
A female correspondent thus writes
to the New York .S' mi :
They have all made a great fuss j
over there iu Brooklyn about Mr.
Beecher and his vindication, but Ii
have not vet heard rejoicings over!
Mrs. Tilton's acquittal. If Mr. Beech-.
er is innocent, of course, she is spot-1
less, and what a source of joy this
ought to he! I am waiting to see I
somebody give her a surprise party, ;
or a hundred thousand dollars, or
some other small testimonial to her j
worth. Won’t you please let. me
know when the grand rally of Fly
mouth Church around this honored j
wife and excellent mother is to take
place? Of course, people so noted j
for consistency as the brethren nr.
must mete out to the goose the same
sauce they have so generously be
stowed on the gander.

During the present week the great
representative Convention in the in
terest of Presbyterian Confederation.;
to which Presbyterians throughout
the world have looked forward so |
long, will begin its deliberations in
London. The recent notion of the j
General Assembly of the Southern
Presbyterian churches removes the
last doubt as to the harmony of
American Presbyterians on the dc
suability of confederation, although
it indicates that, there may be divis
ion of opinion as to the means of tit- j
taining it and its scope and powers!
when secured. The delegations from
the United States embrace many of
the most distinguished ministers of
the gospel and laymen in the coun
try, anti are thoroughly representa
tive of Presbyterian sentiment.
Fla ir CULTURE IN THE UNITED i
States. F. It. Elliott, a writer on ag- j
rieulture, lias been collecting certain 1
data iu regard to fruit culture, and
gives the total market value of the |
crop of the entire country at #47,1100,-
000. New York leads all the States in
amount with $7,000,000. California’s i
figures arc largest, in proportion to
population, being $6,000,000, this sum j
probably including the yield from!
vineyards. The total sum for the
New England States is put at $0,000,-
000, the individual States not being I
itemized.

Jordan’s Joyous Julep.
A Specific for Neuralgia.
TESTIMONIALS.
pKiKascußG, Va., Jan. 20th, 187 0.
John L. Jordan, Esq.—Dear Sir: So well phased
am I with your Joyous Julep, that I hereby tes
tify to tho superior merit of your unequaled
preparation for Neuralgia. 1 shall esteem my
self happy should even one of Uiat worst of all
classes of sufferers be led through me to take the
Julep. My wife has for ten (10) years been a mar
tyr to the moHt malignant and persistent neural
gic torture, without being able to find auy relief
except from your preparation. Hhe was relieved
by the second dose as per directions, and has not
had a return of it for two months. To some I
may seem strangely sanguine about your medi
cine. but I have a right to be so. It is not rea
sonable to suppose this malignant malady would
have died of sheer exhaustion of capacity for
sustaining itself, and that too in a minute, and
the very minute your medicine was taken. If so,
it is a most remarkable, simple coincidence, and
I prefer giving the credit in your favor of the
| best testimony man can ever have—experience.
Vary truly yours,
JAMBS T. TOSH.
