UnlU and Mllver Product ol **><* World.
A German statiseian has gone back
three ami a half centuries In his in
vestigations of the gold and silver
product of the world. He doe 9 not
pretend that his flgur6s are 1 perfectly
accurate, but as near the truth as it
was possible to arrive from the data
before him. He estimates that in the
period named -that is, from the year
1500 to the end of 1810—the total gold
yield vrm MooJWg valued at, about
$8 11)0,000,000. The silver production
in th<* same tiqpe was Sfe.OOo.OOO
I>oundS, or $0,025,000,000 In value. Ihe
value of *old was not far from fifteen
times gr%ator than silver, weight for
weight. Hiivdr decreased in vnluo in
ef>nse<iuenre of the greater produc
tion. That is, during the first half of
tho sixteenth century gold and silver
exchanged in the ratio of 1 to 111 by
weight; an ounce of gold would buy
Hi ounces of silver. A hundred years
later the value of silver had so far fall
en that an ounce of gold would buy
121 ounces of of silver. At the end of
auother century the ratio was l
to 15.1, and in the first half of the
present century it was 1 to 15.65. The
value of silver relatively to gold,
therefore, fell more than 39 p£r cent,
during the 350 years. Tho value of
jr 0 1(1 ulso foil largely, because of the
increased production and the more
extended use of paper a9 a circulating
inodlmn. After the discovery of gold
In Coliforuia the ratio of production
of gold and silver was changed. More
silver was mined, but the increase in
the gold product was far greater.
During the twenty-five years follow
ing tile California discoveries, it is
estimated that the production of gold
throughout the world has been M.fiOO,-
(W# pounds in weight, and $3,350,1X10,-
000 in value, or 700,m>0 pounds m
weight and S2SO,tXX>,IXXt more in value
than the entire product for tho pre
ceding three and a half centuries.
During tho same twenty-five years
the silver product is estimated to
have been 00,000,000 pounds in weight,
and $1,550,000,01X1 in value. During
this short period, therefore, more
than 12 per cent, of the weight und
about 08 per cent, of tho Value of the
precious metals mined was in gold.

Jordan's Joyous Julep,
A Specific for Neuralgia.
TESTIMONIALS.
Petersburg, Va., Jan, 20th, 1875.
John L. Jordan. Esq.—Dear Bir: Ho well phased
am I with your Joyous Julep, that I hereby tes
tify to the superior merit of your unequaled
preparation for Neuralgia. I shall esteem my
self happy should even one of that worst of all
classes of sufferers be led through me to take, the
Julep. My wife has for ten (10) years been a mar
tyr to the. most malignant and persistent neural
gic torture, without being able to hud any relief
except from your preparation. She was relieved
by the second dose as per directions, and has not
had a return of It for two months. To some 1
may seem strangely sanguine about your medi
cine, but I have a right to be so. It is not rea
sonable to suppose this malignant mulady would
have died of sheer exhaustion of capacity for
sustaining itself, and that too in a minute, and
the very minute your medicine was taken. If so,
it is a most remarkable, simple coincidence, and
I prefer giving the credit in your favor of the
best testimony man can ever have—experience.
Vary truly yours,
JAMEB T. TOBH.
Columbus, January 16,1876.
Mr.Jordan: —l take great pleasure in recom
mending your Joyous Julep for neuralgia,
has produced a most wonderful relief in one oj
the severest attack? of neuralgia my daughter
ever has had. She l.t been treated for It by
three skillful physici .: with very little benefit,
and used all the usual * ,-medics with little suc
cess. I can with much confidence hope, for a per
manent cure. It is only two days since we began
the use of it, and it is apparently of permanent
benefit. Yours, with respect,
AIRS. L. I. NORMAN.
