Tlie Barrel Feat ArcompUnhcU. The Detroit Post of (he loth Instant says: “Hob UlmtktiavrK, ttio colored man who attempted the novel and difficult feat or standing upon the head of a common barrel amt con stantly rotating, or turning round, for twenty-four hours, oompleted his task at six o’clock Saturday evening. He commenced ut six o'clock Friday evening, and during the entire time was watched by two men, who reliev ed each other At Intervals of st\ hours. They have made affidavit that the feat was squarely and hon estly accomplished. Blackhuwk com plained of a slight soreness in his lower limbs and in the back, the re sult of his cramped position, but oth erwise felt no fatigue or inconven ience. It must be remembered that he was without food or drink during the entire time that ho was upon the barrel. When Blackhuwk completed his feat, he claimed that he could just as well have remained up twelve Hours longer, but the parties who proposed to back him expressed themselves as entirely satisfied with what In' had done.” • ♦ • Atlanta 1 Brakl: It is said of the new book of Miss Augusta ,1. Evans, that it will fur excel St. Elmo in point of intense interest and thrilling thought, and that “the rhythmic polysyllables come rolling upon the strunu of literature even as the green sea beats grand cadences upon the shore covered with thedrlftiug sands of centuries, hearing upon its bosom pearls of purest ray, lit to bedeck proud Juno’s diadem.” It is to be called “lufeliei." Mr. John Lee Carroll, who has just been nominated for the Govern orship of Marvland, wort hily sustains the name anil honor of a historic fami ly. He owns the old manor of the Carroll of Carrolton.and until within a few years past has been mainly known as a cultivated, shospitable country gentleman. His career as Speaker or the Senate has been high ly creditable, and there can be no doubtthat he will tnakean admirable Governor. California is one of those happy | States that have no debt to speak of. All the money which it owes to cred itors other than itself is $7.13,500, and the San Francisco Bulletin says that if a system of rigid economy should be set on foot California might ho, before the close of the next four years, not only “comparatively the wealthiest, but the most prosperous State In the Union.” the debt was once more than $3,000,000, which, it is claimed, was illegally contracted, but was, notwithstanding, assumed by the people. I shall esteem mv #■•ll happy should even on of that worst of all classes of sufferer# be led through me to take, the Julep. My wife ha# for ten (10) year# been a mar tyr to the moat malignant and persistent neural gic torture, without being able to find any relief except from your preparation. Bhe was relieved by the second dose a# per directions, and has not had a return of it for two month#. To some I may seem strangely sanguine about your medi cine, but I have a right to be so. It i# not rea sonable to suppose this malignant malady would have died of sheer exhaustion of capacity for HUHtainiug itself, and that too iu s minute, and the very minute your medicine was taken.
