From tin* Washington Tribune J THE POETS CRiVK. I marked a lonely grave amoug The iuanaioua of the dead, Where slept au humble child of Hong. Hit notes forever tied. Save when their echoes gently stole Hack to the haunts where he Poured forth the music ol hie soul In numbers wild and free. I knew it was the Poet's grave. Although no sculptured stone Nor urn. nor towering column, gave His memory its own. Homo loved oue. who bal know.) his worth. I liable to do more. Had smoothed the rugged mound Of earth Aud turf'd it greenly o'er. The sauntering crowd passed rudely by % I That lowly place of rest. To viaw the marble piled on high Above the rich man's breast; But they forgot the wealth ot love That lives when gold and stone Have perished from the earth above Aud left the dust alone. They know not that the form laid nigh By lowly, loving hands, In memory’s mystic alchemy Would turn to golden sands: For had they felt one throb that stirriMl The loving hearts that knew The Pin t's grave, their ears had heard His lingering music, too. The crowd will saunter by the scene Where marble shafts uprise. But some will seek the hillock, green Aud precious in their ayes; For well they know who sleeps below, Whoso pillow they could crave— The one below the shaft <*f snow, Or 'neath the Post's grave. CoI.UMBI * Dkjcw. Wathingtnn, July 34. 1878. HINUUOIN. —A Ntigra Fulls belle writes home: “It is horrid here not a man in the place worth over $15,000. —“Lizzie, aren’t you RoinK to church this morninß "Ne, dear, I the pews are so narrow, you know, and I couldn't think of going with out my bustle,” and she did not go. —The average Brooklyn lodger does not. hunt through his soup for chicken any more, but, gluneingsad ly up into the lanlady's face, and timidly asks, “Arc you quite sure you dipped any feathers in this water?” -Colonel Boss, the Cherokee, has followed Charlie. —Nobody goes to school at Long Branch but the dolphins. —The longest night in Norway lasts three months, and when a young man goes to see his girl, her mother, i before retiring, tells her not to ruin j her health by setting up more than j two mouths. A Columbia professor, reproving a youth for tho exercise of his lists, said: “We tight with our heads hero." The youth reflected, and re plied that butting wasn’t considered fair at his last school.
