Mr. Local: We ask space 111 your col
umns for a few words eunecrninj( the
! Youiik Men's Christieu Associat ion of tills
city. The Association wits offfanlased some
| tius* laid. March and wits placed under the
control of a board of ten directors. The
roll of the Association has ttverutfod (jii
hundred members Mince the orjfOOls*Uoit.
i The younK men beifan the work of extend*
I iiiK the cniisi* of religion by carrying its
[ influence into channels not convenient to
tlie work of the city pastors. Four places
of holding prayer iiUMftiiiKs were selected
-one in the southern part of the city, ouo
in the Northern Liberties, owe in Browns
ville uod one in Wy union. lu additloli to
these, tin* Association held a Sabbath
afternoon six o’clock prayer meeting at
the room in the roar of the Presbyteriau
churcfi, and also a Tuesday evening prayer
meeting at the same plac*. The result of
five of these meetings may be bummed up
as follows: The Wynnton meeting wan
attended and encouraged by a largo por
tion of the good people of that delightful
little village, and the prayer meetings had
m>eonUnued loug before the young men
surrenderiki their charge to the communi
ty. At present there is a most flourishing
Habbatii*M4'lMßl held at tlie “brick school
house" every Sunday. The down-town!
meeting Is held every Sabbath afternoon.
It has continued to grow and increase In |
interest and members until at present no |
private hous t can accommodate the peo-1
pie who attend. Tlie up-town meeting ha*
done much good, and is in a most flour- 1
ishing condition. Much inb;rest is mani
fested in tlie Browneviile meeting. Tlie
prayer inoeUng held at the lecture room
of the Association on Sabbath afternoons
are perfectly delightful. The room is coxy
and comfortable. The meeting never ex
tends over thirty minutes, and is charac
terized by proceedings of the most inter
esting nature, chief among which is tin*
singing. The attendance Is always large
and Is mostly composed of young men and I
maidens. Besides all these metitings, the j
Association held daily six o'clock prayer
meetings last spring.
All we have thus fur written sounds very
enoouruging; but now we are compelled
to say u few words not so favorable. Tlie
Tuesday evening meeting is not properly
attended by tin* members. For several
weekapfista suflielent nuiidx*r have not!
i>een present to form a quorum. This j
should not be. It Is earnestly hcflied that!
tlie ineinbers, old and young, male and
female, will revive this meeting. It is one i
of tlie most. Important meetings of the
Association, and should Is* well attended.
Another faulty state of ulTuirs Is the fact'
that tie* active work of the Association,
the year round, lias fallen on a peer. This
should l*e changed. Ltd these mattera be j
corrected and the Y'. M. A. will prove a
much greater jsiwer in the cause of Christ |
than it now Is. H. A. E.

in these modern days of pr.-gress and
development, when science is moving
along with rapidity of steam wiud and

of nature into channels which multiply
oumforU to the human race, prolonging
human life, improving the Understanding,
exacting the character, refining tlie sen
tiineuts-ail age when the philosophy of
tie* old and new world is spreading its
bruuchesnud sending its roots deep down
iuU the strata of the earth, tlie alluvial of
uu hundred of ceiituri(‘M telling to us the
mysteries of days unnumbered and un
told an age when the nations of the earth
are brought into the proximity of neigh
bors conversing daily with an exchange of
ideas and discoveries.
lii such times we behold all these tilings
and are forced to exclaim, the suu surely
i is seven times its former brightness, and
i a day equivilent to a week. It is said,
j "Time changes ail things and wo change
i with it.” When we see the developments
of letters of science, of laws of necessities,
surely there is great truth in the old ad
age. But there are certain tilings that do
not change. Kcligion may take into ik
i self the form and comeliness of chureii
j ism,of Kitualims.of lioinaiiiHin.or any oth

hoareth the words of tlie Prophesy of this
Book, if any man slmll add unto these

plagues that are within Uiis Hook :
"And if any man shall take away from
the words of the Book of this Prophesy,

Thu* we woe that the changcH of time;
can not affect the Law of God.
But there are those who will ask what
is that; law? What is the will of God to
ward men? Wo have God’s revealed Law,
as in the Bible, and ids Law of Nature,
as observed in Nature. Now wo know
there are many who ignorantly do not
accept the Bible as G ut's revealed Law,
because they do not understand its teach
ings, and because they are unwilling to
slmly to llud out its truths. Why not ob
ject to the revelation of Nature because
the trees of the forest and dowers of the

ject to the teachings and doctrines of the
Bible, because God has not revealed his
will to man, logically, in subjects, divis

We are among those who accept the Bi- j
J lilo os the revelation of God, and from it J
we learn: “Remember tin* Sabbath day to !
