Yoatorday about'ftoori a delightful little cpiModo occurred in tho offloo of Ordinary Tho Judge wa sitting thoro very ly enjoying a conversation with a friend, when ho became aware that there was quite a crowd in tho hall Just outside tho door. Ho luvltfed the unexpected visitors In, and soon hift ofiloo was filled witli a crowd of brawny rustic lads and buxom rustic lassos. It was whispered to the presiding dig nitary of the apartment that most of those assembled had come to witness a pleasant spectacle, but that two of the th meant business emphatically. Tho situation was comprehended ut, once. The license was procured accord ing to tho new law, and when tho writing was done there could be no doubt but that William Hturges and Barah Jane Elkins had determined to take that step, which loads either to supremo happiness W untold woes. They were a young couple, and fair to see as they stood up and answered the questions which were recorded. He, Just twenty-twojlkn honest sun-burnt farmer, who knew wlmt a stern, practical thing life was, and yet he almost forgot its hard ships os he gazed with pride on tiio fair one by his side. Sho Just eighteen, just blooming into womanhood, and blushing with all the coyness of a maiden as she stood before those two score eyes that were fixed upon her. It appeared that they lived in Lee county, not far from Co lumbus. They had concluded that it was better for them to bo together for mutual happiness in this weary world. Horne ob stacle had prevented tho eonsumation of their fond hofies at home, but like true lovers they had clung to each other still. The result of this devotion was a visit to Columbus, in which they were attended by quite a number of their friends. Tin object of this visit has already been sur mised. After drawing up tho papers. Justice J. M. McNeiU, who was present, was re quested to tie the sacred knot. This he did to the delight of all present. Congrat ulations for the bride then came thick and fast. These over, the happy couple march ed out followed by a train of attendants. We hope they may enter upon the enjoyment of that happiness, which is said to lx? in store for all such perfect trust and untir ing fidelity. Their devotion deserves felicity. Vanderbilt Uni vrralty. The friends of education throughout tin country fool a deep interest in tins future of the university almost ready to be open ed in Nashville, and whose existence is the result of the Hberalty of Commodore Van derbilt. His magnificent donation of $700,- 000 to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for the establishment of e universi ty Is woil known to nil. The money has been applied, and an elegant and commo dious structure is now about complete. Probably as able a faculty as can be found on the continent lias been secured. Chancellor A. A. Lipscomb and Prof. Le lioy W. Brown, of our State University, are numbered among about six Loon pro feeiors. The future of the institution in brilliant. Nothing but success Is possible to it. It is to be dedicated in Octolmr. Commodore Vanderbilt will be present on that occasion. The dedicatory address will be made by Hon. I*, y. C. Lamar, of Mississippi. Dr. 0. F. Deems, of New York, will deliver au address, dedicating tli© inst itution to Christian education. Dr. Lipscomb will deliver an address, dedicat ing it to popular education. It is probable that Gov. Tildcn w ill be present with Com modore Vanderbilt The attendance upon the first term of tho institution from all parts of the South is sure to bo very largo. There is no restriction against those who are not able to pay tuition, It may be paid at any tirno in the future/ The university will be a grand institu tion, a monument of honor to him who brought it into existence, to the church which controls it, and to the South, in which it is located. Freight from down the river has become so heavy that one boat is hardly sufficient to meet the demand. Another would be put ou at once, but the Wylly is about the only boat here which can be made availa ble at tho present condition of the river. At the bend nine miles below here, and at several other places, th© water is very shallow, and the boat now in use is proba bly the only one owned by tho company that can skim over such plac<s. IT Ml Lot Superior Court Court met Monday morning, 13th Inst., j at 10 o’clock; Judge Johnson presiding. Court was organ I zed in a few minutes. The Judge’s charge to the Grand Jury was very brief; complimenting them for their prompt attendance, only one grand juror failing to answer, and he had moved ’ out of the county. He only gavo them in charge their duties especially required of him by the statutes, remarking that their intelligence and good senso was a suffi cient guarantee that their duties would be well done; notified them that they must go through with their business this week, as ho would not require a Grand Jury next week. VISITING LAWYEHH PRESENT. From Columbus: Col. Mark Blandford, Solicitor-General W. A. Little, Hon. John Peabody, Judge J. F. Pou, C. J. Thornton. The vacancy of Gen. Bonning’s chair is a very noticeable feature In tho Court room. ORDER OF THE CALL OF THE DOCKETS. Ist. Common Law; 2d. Claim; 3d. Equi ty; 4th. Appeal; which was as far as an nouncod for the present . Tho Common Law docket was taken up and the cases gone through with very rapidly. There is not*mnch disposition manifested to try cases, either by the Court or lawyers. No cases of importance tried. Judge Worrell's health is very fee ble, so much so, that he is not able to go into the trial of an important case. Two small cases only tried during the day; mostly continued by consent. TUESDAY MORNING, 14TH. The call of the docket goes on as yester day. Only two oases tried. Nearly through the (Common Law Docket. It is thought Court will adjourn Satur day. The Criminal Docket will be taken up Friday. No business to bo tried of oonse quonco. C. C. Iftlrtk* unl Death*. By anew law, which went into effect the first of this month, it is made the duty of parents to return all the births and deaths which occur iu their families to the ordi nary of tho county in which they live. The penalty for each failure to do so is $lO. The same law makes the marriage license much more definite than it formerly was. Sixteen questions are now answered be fore the license is issued. The eertifhuite in the hnnds of the ordinary gives a full and accurate description of each person murrbHj. Residence, age, parents’ name, color, place of birth and several other things are recorded. The returns of deaths stab) the causes and all the elrcuinstances. The returns of births are very full also. Ordinary F. M. Brooks has on hands large lot of blank returns, and he will sup ply tho physicians in tho county if they will apply. The law has gone into effect and will be enforced. Diver Xrwi. The Wylly did not arrive until about 11 o’clock Wednesday night. She brought 135 bales of cotton, consigned as follows: Flournoy, McGohce A Cos., 63.; Alien, Be dell A 00., 28; Swift, Murphy A Cos., 19; J. L. Dunham A Cos., 17; Burros A Wil liams, 5; Watt A Walker, 31. She also brought 8 barrels of sundries. PASSENGERS. Mrs. A. F. Miller, Chattahoochee; 1). Beaucamp, Neal's Landing; A. P. Hays, Haysvilie, Ga.; E. Watford, Gordon, Ala. ; C. Wingate, Wingate’s Landiug. Throe on dtx;k. The Wylly left for Apalachicola yester day morning at ll o’clock, wit h a large cargo. The Klirr Bed. The last trip mode bv the Wylly to Apa lachicola was attended by several circum stances which caused considerable delay. The first impediment was met at Wool folk’s Bend, about nine miles below the city. Here the boat struck the bar, which has recently caused so much trouble, and stuck so fast upon it that it required ten hours’ hard work to get her again in mo tion. This bar has proven a very serious inconvenience recently. Several times the boats have struck it and have only been removed after hard work. At present the water is only thirty inches deep there; so that only the smaller boats can pass. Hands are now at work on this part of the river, but us to tlie nature of their operations we are not informed. Unless speedily remedied this evil is likely to prove very Injurious to the navigation of the river. • The camp meeting down town, in spite of the rain, was well attended last night, and many asked for prayers, after an ef fective sermon by Rev. J. B. McGehee. To-night, Bov. R. J. Corley will preach a sermon for the young men esj>ocially. All should go and hear him. Ilt'uvy Frct|(!i(. On her lost trip the Wylly carried 1,300 barrels of freight from Bainbrldgo to Eu faula in addition to the load she already had. This was a very large amount of freight for such a small boat. Sho drew two feet and seven inches of water when she had this heavy load on. If you have got a worthless Machine call on H. Jdenwn. iiradfield dr Cos. : Gentlemen—You will please ship us an other supply of your invaluable Female Regulator, and forward bill by mail. We are happy to state that this remedy gives better satisfaction than any article we sell. We have been selling it since 1808, and witnessed many remarkable cures by it. Among others, there was a lady friend of ours who was sallow and sickly j until she was twenty-six years old, when • she was married. Her husband lived two , years and died. She continued iu bad health; in fact, she has never been what a woman ought to be. A few months after the death of her husband she saw your advertisement, and came to our j store and bought a bottle of your Regula- 1 tor from us, and took it according to di-; reactions. It has cured her sound aud well, brought her regular monthly peri ods on, and to-day she is a hearty, bloom ing widow —with tlie use of but two bot tles of your Regulator, costing her only three dollars, when she had tried several physicians and spent a great deal of money without anv benefit. Wishing you Sreat success with your valuable reme ies, we are, respectfully yours, etc., w. Jordan's Joyous Julep. A Specific for Neuralgia. TESTIMONIALS. PETKHhiiVJU}, Va., Jan, 20th, 1876. John L. Jordan, Esq.—Dear Sir : Ho well phased am 1 with your Joyous Julep, that I hereby tes tify to the superior merit of your unequaled preparation lor Neuralgia. I sliall esteem my *• U happy should even one of that worst of all , classes of sufferer* be led through me to take the | Julep. My wile bos for ten (10) years been a mar tyr to the most malignant and per*i*teut neural- I gic torture, witbont being able to find auy relief i except from your preparation. She was relieved i by the second dote as per directions, and has not , had s return of it for two months. To some I may seem strangely sanguine shout your medi , cine, but I have a right to be so. It'is not rea | sociable to suppose this malignaut malady would have died of sheer exhaustion of capacity for sustaining itself, aud that too in a minute and the very uunute your medicine was taken. If no. ! it is a moat remarkable, simple coincidence, and 1 prefer giving the credit in your ifcvor ol the best testimony man can ever have—-experience. Vary truly yours, JAMES T. TOSH. CoLranms, January 16,1875. Mr.Jordan:—l take great pleasure in recom mending your Joyous Julep for neuralgia, has produced a uw#i wonderful relief in oue ei the severest attacks of neuralgia my daughter ever has bad. She boa been treated for it by three skillful physicians, with very little benefit, and used *ll the usual remedies with little suc cess. I can with much confidence hope for a per manent cure. It is only two clays since we began the use of it, and it U apparently ol permanent benefit. Yvura, with respect, MBS. L. I. NORMAN. J Olft-Y 1,. JOKIIAX. Apothecary, No. ISW Broad Street, Colnanbua.
