linirrm of Auslrtu at llic umh. The Fmpress of Austria Is taking the sea-bath at Petites-Dalles, near Sassetot, Seind-In-feriure. The Em press is a superb swimmer. She lakes her bath every morning at 9 o’clock. Her eubiu anil that of her ladies of honor are together, under one roof, separated into rooms or cabins by curtains. Thooabin of the Empress has a corridor, wit h a room on either side. In one is her bathing dress, and the floor is covered with waxed cloth; in the other is a chair and a small toilet table, on which is a mirror, framed in bamboo. Simple enough. But the Empress of Austria is a remarkably simple person in habits and dress; site never wears a jewel unless obliged to go on State occlusions. Her dress at the sea-side is as plain as possible. She is in mourning for the late ex-Emporor Ferdinand. She wears a black cretonne costume; skirt and tunic arc trimmed with bias folds and j •a braid; a black Hungarian paletot. ! with braid trimming; black straw | hat with black cherries ami leather brodequins—those sensible French ! mountain walking bools, that are all the mode now. Several ladies of! honor uceompuuy her, dressed in the same unpretending style; and behind them follows a negross maid, who leads in a leash the Empress’ favorite dog, a tremendous large Danish hound. After the bath Her Majesty, ■ her ladies, the negress and the dog walk the full length of the only street in Petites-Dalles; at the end she stops for a cup of milk which is milked from a cow in her presence. In the afternoon she rides on horseback four and five hours.— Exchange. In Europe the highest civilization demands regular physical exercise. It is a part of education very much neglected in the South. A correspondent of the National Department of Agriculture says: it appears from remarks of different writers that none know of any certain remedy for hots in horses. I know of a remedy that is safe and certain, dis covered in the following way : About thirty years ago a frienu lost by hots a very line horse. He took from the stomach of the dead horse about a gill of hots ami brought them to my office to experiment upon. He made preparations of every remedy lie had heard of. and put some of them into each. Most had no effect; a few af fected them slightly, but sago tea more than anything else that killed iu fifteen hours. Hu concluded he could kill them hy putting them into nitric acid, but it had no more effect upon them than water; the third day they were as lively as when put in. A bunch of taDsy was growing by my office. He took a handful of that, bruised it, added a little water, then squeezed out the juice, and put some in; they were dead in one minute. Hince then I have had it given to ev ery horse I have seen affected with hots, and have never known it to fail giving entire relief. My friend had another horse affected with hots, sev eral years Inter. He gave him the tansy in the morning and a dose of salts iu the evening; the next, morn ing he took up from the excretions throe half-pints of hots. — ♦ - YYliaf to do in ('aF of AirliiMi. Prof. Wilder, of Cornell University, gives these short rules for action in case of accident. It would not be a bad tiling to cut them out anil carry them in one’s pocket book, or commit them to memory: For dust in the eyes, avoid rubbing ; dish cold water in them ; remove cin ders, etc., with the round point of a lead pencil. Remove Insects from tln' ear by tepid water. Never put a hard in strument into the car. If an artery iscutoompressitubove the wound ; if a vein is out compress it below. If choked, go uiktii ail fours and cough. For slight burns, dip the part in cold water; if the skin is destroyed, cover with varnish. For apoplexy, raise the head and body; for fainting, lay the person flat. Tonorial. A young lady of engaging personal appearance went to Burlington, Ver mont, recently and announced that she was going to open a barber shop on North hill. The very next day each married woman on North hill surprised her husband, whose many virtues she had long known with a neat little present, consisting of a razor, lather brush and strop. And now, as oft as a North hill man comes home, the wife of his bosom puts her arms around his neck and rubs her downy cheek against his face, in all apparent innocence and affection, but if his cheek is smoother than when he went away from home in tlic morn ing, she fans him with the rolling pin until he has to wear ills hat on whichever lump it will fit. GREAT English Remedy THE Cordial Unlin of Syrieum, AND TONIC FILIiS, EOK NERVOUS AND GENERAL DEBILITY Premature Decay, Over lihlulkoiut In the I'm* of Opt inn or ilroliollr Drinks, Tolmero, Ac. M’ICYOI S IMCItII.ITV. The Press, the Pulpit ami the Lecture room are Hileut ou the subject of this disease. A false delicacy withholds a knowledge iu regard to vio lation of Physiological Laws, and life-wrecks shattered humanity, insanity, and premature graves till the world. No race, nation or posi tion is exempt from the soul-destroying scourge. Sleepless nights, twitching of the muscles, trembling of the limbs, poor appetite, easily dis turbed by noise or excitement, pimples and blotches ou the face, desire to avoid company, pe culiar sensation over the whole body are among the difficulties which attend this coiuplsiut. The Cordial Balm of Syrieum and Tonic Pills will iu a short time so cleanse the blood and soothe the nerves, and restore strength to the body, as to make life enjoyable and happy. KPILEPNV OK FITS. No other remedy will cure Epilepsy or Fits so quickly sm the Cordial Bulrn of Svricum and Tonic Pills. Kidney Diseases and many other dililculties are cured by the use of the Cordial lialm of Syrup and Tonic Pills. if the watery portions of our food are not pass ed off, they must, when retained iu the system, produce serious difficulties. Language fails when attempting to describe the sufferings of per sons whose kidneys are out of order ; gravel, back-ache, inflammation of the bladder and of the delicate membranes ot the urinary organs are the result if the water is not regularly and properly carried through the kidneys. The Cordial Balm of Syrieum is effectual iu promoting the secretion of the wa tery and unuutritious portions of the food, and iu carrying it off by its proper outlets. Whatever portion of our food is unserviceable should be passed off in the water in sweat, and from the bowels. If these useless matters are retained disease is sure to follow, for then the blood becomes poisoned with the impurities which should pass off iu their proper channels. The Cordial Balm of Syrieum and Tonic Pills is a powerful cleanser of the blood; it starts the liver and kidneys into active operation, and acts on all the secretions of the body. It carries off old and foul elements iu the blood, which are slow and sure death if allowed to remain in the system. DU TJONr KLENT33SS. THE COKDIAL BALM OF SYBI CUM AND TONIC PILLS is the only remedy that has ever proved hy prac tical experience a bem-tit to those who suffer from over-indulgence In Alcoholic Liquors, it com pletely destroys the tastes for them, and restores the victim to health and vigor. A single trial will prove it to be iust what it is recommended to be. MORPIXINTE. THE COKDIAL BALM OF BYKI CUM AND TONIC PILLS is a sure cure for the habitual use of Mor phine, so extensively used iu this country as a stimulant. It will in a very short time com pletely destroy the desire for tills naroototie. We have many testimonials from the first fami lies in Europe ami America, who testify to its efficacy. OPIU M. The alarming increase of the use of this most pernicious drug as a stimulant, by male and fe male, and its peculiar effects, completely destroy ing the digestive apjaratu* and shattering the nervous system, fhminuting and debasing the mind, renders The Cordial Balm oi Syrieum and Tonic Pills of inestimable value, as it completely destroys all desire fur this most baneful drug, and restores the nerves to a perfectly healthy state, even in cases where opium has been used in large quanti ties and fur s number of years. [Davenport Democrat, Davenport, lowa.) How lew people are found without soma indi cations of nervous disease. This truth has been recognized ever since classic ages, when a sound mind iu a sound body was held as the perfection of human existence, Heine froth congenial dis ease, others from youthful indiscretions, some from alcoholic indulgence or too free use of to bacco, suffer iron* tremor, palpitation of nervous excitement—all of which can be removed and per manently cured by tbs English Remedy, the Cor dial Balm of Hyricurn, which has long been in the old country the favorite remedy, and which, since its introduction into this country, has dis tanced all other medicines having the same ob ject in view.
