worthy of attention. It lias been
translated into many languages, is
even said to be inscribed in golden
letters on white satin in the imperial
palace of China, and fully vindicates
its fame in the well known dross giv

O thou Eternal One, whose pronem o bright
Ail apace must occupy—all motion guide;
Unchanged through time’s all devastating Might,
Thou only God. There ia no God beside,
Being above all beluga, mighty One!
Whom none cau comprehcud and none explore!
Who flll’at exintence with Thyself alone,
Embracing all, aupnorting, ruling o'er!
Beiug whom we call God, and kuow no more!
Thy rhaiua the umnoaeured universe surround,
Upheld by Thee, by Tu ee tuapire with breath,
Thou the beginning with the end wan bound,
Aud beautifully mingled life and death!
As n|*arks mount upward from the fiery blaze,
Ho Huuti are born aud worlds spring forth tf ora
Thee;
And an the spangles iu the suuuy rays
Hhlue around the silvery snow, the )iageaiity
Of Heaven's bright army glitters iu Thy praise.
.
A million torchon lighted by Thy hand.
Wander unwearied through the blue abyss ;
They own Thy miwcr. accomplish Thy command.
All gay with life, all eloquent with bliss.
What shall wo call them? Piles of crystal light ?
A gloriottH jemrapafty of gold-* streams ?
ljuupa vthax bright'/
Suns lighting systems with their joyous beams?
But Thou to them art as the fnoott to night.
Yes' as the drops of water to the sea.
All this magnificence iu Thesis lost;
What are ten thousand worlds compared to Thee?
And what am I, then f Heaven's unnumbered
host.
Though multiplied by myriads, aud arrayed
In that gk>ry of aubltmest thought.
Is but an atom in the balanc. weighed
Against Thy greatuess—is a cipher brought
Against infinity. What am 1? Naught.
Nothing!—but tb** ertlo*--i*o* of Tbv light divine,
Pervadiug worlds, hath reached my bosom too;
Yea. iu my apirit doth Thy spirit shine.
As shines the sunbeam iu u dron of dew.
Naught?—-but I live, and oo hope's pinions fly,
Eager, toward Thy presence; for in Thee
I live and breathe, aud dwell, aspiring high;
E'en to the throne of Thy divinity,
I am,o God. anil surely Thou must be!
Thou art! directing, guiding all. Thou art!
Direct my understanding, then, to Thee;
Control my’spirit. guide my wandering h-art.
Though but an atom 'midst immensity.
fiMll 1 am something, iasln mod by Thy liand!
I hold a middle rank, ’twixt Heaven and earth,
On the last verge of mortal being stand,
Ulnae to the realms where angels have their
birth,
Just off the boundaries of the spirit land!
The First Jlrrfliix of \apielon and
Euyenlr.
At a ball given by Louis Napoleon,
when President, at the Elysee some
nights before the niup il'iiut. Mile,
Eugenie met her future emperor and
husband. l’lie manner of meeting
was somewhat romantic. Louis Na
poleon did not cine much for the
rush of ball-rooms, and he hod chose
a propitious moment to escape with
his friend, Edward N -y, the Duke of
La Moskowa.iuto the Elysee gardens,
when lie .suddenly came upon a ra
diant, blushing girl, who was tying
up her hair opposite a glass in the
conservatory. Her hair had come
down during the waltz, aud tlie
crowd was too great to admit of her
reaching the ladies’ dressing room, so
that she glided in here, hoping to be
unobserved. Louis Napoleon, see
ing her in tliis strait, gallantly gave
her his sarm and led her round|by t he
privote apartments to the dressing
room in question, and from this time
there was a mutual regard between
Napoleon aud the lair stranger.
During the following twelve months
M me. de Monti jo and her daughter
were invited guests at the presiden
tial residence Fontainbleuu, Com
neigne, St. Cloud and it escaped no
bodv that the Prinee paid Mile. Eu
genie an inordinate amount of atten
tion. No one supposed, however,
that these attentions could end in a
marriage, for the President, having
performed his coup d'rlut, was on the
imint of becoming Emperor, and it
was no secret that his ambassador of
Munich was t lying to arrange a match
for him witli a Princess of Bavaria.
The King of Bavaria refused to give
away his relative to a prinee whom
lie styled ail "adventurer,” and then
it was that lamig Napoleon, much
mortised'at heart,' resolved not to ex
poso himself to further rebuffs in
courting royal princesses. Possibly,
Madame (fe Mn nil jo had been wait
ing her opportunity; for two days
before ttie Bavarian snub had begun
to get bruited, she asked u private
audience of the prince, and told him
that, as his attentions to her daugh
ter were beginning to excite com
ment., she lmd the intention of leav
ing France.
This was at St. Cloud, where the
mother and daughter were both stay
ing. The prince asked Madame de
Muntijo to tarry one day more, for he
might have something to say to her;
and lie employed these twenty-four
hours in acquainting his Ministers of
his intention t,o marry Mile Eugenie.
The news fell u|>on them like a shell.
Nothing of this kind had been appre
hended bv any one, and Count de
Moray, Count de Persigny and
Edward Ney, earnestly implored the
prinee not to contract such a mcmtl
liiKiiici'. The communication was
made to the Cabinet on the 2>th of
November; On the 2d of December
the prince was proclaimed Emperor;
on the 2d of January the coming
marriage was officially notified to
Uie French people, and on the 30th
of January it was solemnized at
Notre Dame.

The Press, tho Pulpit and the Lecture room
are silent on the subject of this disease. A ialse

shattered humanity, insanity, and premature
graves fill the world. No race, nation or posi

Sleepless nights, twitching of the muscles,
trembling of the limbs, poor appetite, easily dis
turbed by noise or excitement, piuiples aud
blotches on the face, desire to avoid company, pe
culiar sensation over the whole body are among
the difficulties which attend this complaint.
The Cordial Balm ol Syricum and Tonic Pills
will in a short time so cleanse tlie blood aud
soothe the nerves, and restore strength to the
body, as to make life enjoyable and happy.

Kidney Diseases
and many other difficulties are cured by the use
■>f the Cordial Balm of Syrup and Tonic Fills.
If the watery portions of our food are not pass
ed oil, they must, when retained in the system,
produce serious difficulties. Language tails
when attempting to describe the sufferings of per
sons whose kidneys are out of order ; gravel,
back ache, inflammation of the bladder aud of the
delicate membranes of the urinary organs are the
result it' the water is not regularly and properly
carried through the kidneys.
The Cordial Balm of Syricum
is effectual in prompting the secretion of the wa
tery ami uunutritious portions of the food, aud
ui carrying it off by its proper outlets.
Whatever portion of our food is unserviceable
should be passed off in the water in sweat, ami
from the bowels. If these useless matters are
retained disease is sure to follow, for then the
blood becomes poisoned with the impurities
which should puss off iu their proper channels.
The Cordial Balm ot Syricum and Toßic Pills
is a powerful cleanser of the blood; it starts the
liver and kidneys into active operation, ami acts
on all the secretions of the body. It carries off
old and fonl elements in the blood, which are
slow aud sure death if allowed t<> remain iu the
system.

How few people are found without some Indi
cations of nervous disease. This truth has been
recognized ever since classic ages, when a sound

of human existence. Home from congenial dis
ease, others from youthful indiscretions, some
from alcoholic indulgence or too free use of to
bacco, suffer from tremor, palpitation of nervous

since its introduction into this country, lias dis
