Horses move faster and are thicker on the streets; drays rattle louder, and drivers hull each other with jests and jokes In their work; country wagons stand thick In the streets, and tho honest faces of their drivers are seen in every store. (JlerkH have left the doors and sidewalks and have thoir atten tion well occupied within; merchants talk less, but what they say Is more cheerful than the gloomy forebodings they In dulged u few months ago; men pass each other faster on the streets, and something In the eye, or in tho walk itself, bills of business and activity. Cotton trundles in from the country, or comes gliding up the river on tho boats, or whizzing In from the adjoining counties on the wagon of the iron horse. The aspeet of the streets is changing. The glare of summer is gone, and now wo are losing the* sense of its still closeness, which stifled energy in its birth. Tho bracing air of fall Besoms to be taking effect Everything begins to put on its sharp, spry, winter looks and to move around faster to justify the changes. The dull season is passed, and there is a sort of sense of relief. The busy times are beginning, and though we are not yet enjoying tho exhilaration which they arc after awhile to bring, still there is enough of promise to justify hope, and hope stirs the boing into new life. The busy season is fast coming, and never did it come to a gladder welcome after a more wewiry waiting. ROMII-HAMII AAA. JEWISH FEAST OF THE NEW YEAR. Yesterday was marked by a general suspension of business by the Jewish merchants In tills elty and a general ob servance of Kosh-Hasiiana, or the begin ning of the new year, by all the Hebrews in the city. Tho many closed doors on llrood street showed Jiow large a part of tho city's trade Is transacted by our He brew fellow-citizens and how important they are to our materiul prosperity. The day was celebrated with appropriate religious exorcises, which were participa ted in with groat unanimity by all those of the Jewish faith. It was a most gen eral and sacred holiday among them, and all the ordinary affairs of life were laid aside, the time being deemed Uh> sacred for such use. Tho old custom was to eel obrate two days, and this Is still observed in many countries of the world, being universal among European Jew’s, we be lieve. In this country the progressive re formers celebrate only one day. Tho day was doubly Interesting to the Hebrews in Atlanta, as they übhl it to dedicate anew and elegant synagogue which they have just erected. Yesterday, all over America and all over the world, tho vast numbers of Hebrews celebrated their festal day and religiously observed its ceremonies and customs. Th<* religious exercises used on this occasion are said to l>e impressive and solemn. Lint \Ve‘k’* l ulKm Figure*. Middling uplands in the Liverpool mar ket were cpioto< l last Friday at 6 15-likt.; at the corresponding date last year the quotation was 7%d, and in 1873, BJ;d. The New York market declined steadi ly all the week under the apprehension of an over supply of cotton and dull trade in goods. M larl u. Wo hasten to follow the example of many of our eotemporarles in expressing our profound admiration for tho genius that animated tho minds of Drs. Love A Wil son in giving to the world the Anti-Mala rial Pad, which is effecting more cures of fever and ague, chills and fever, etc., than all the other remedies combined; and we can say, without the fear of contradiction, if perfection is ever to bo attained at all in modicine as a curative agent, the honor belongs to Drs. Love & Wilson, of Atlanta, Ua., in the discovery of tho Anti-Malarial Pad. It Is as near perfection ns anything in life, and is sure to cure in every case; and we stake our reputation on the asser tion that it is the best remedy in tho world for all that it is recommended to cure. Header, remember there is no taking of nauseous compounds, no quinine, no mer cury, no arsenic; but simply to wear an Anti-Malarial Pad around the body, and be cured. Head their advertisement in another column. Ill* T*lk. There is a t ime for all things, Solomon says. Now is the time for big talk about tho year’s farming. Exchanges are tilled with wonderful tales of what John Smith and Billy Slow have done on two-acre patois's, and with one crippled mule. These big stories are extensively eopitnl, and are us*d as spurs to urge the loss thrifty of mankind on to greater exertion and larger success. Some wonderful things an* really accomplished by thrifty farmers, but among these recorded won ders, we find some pills too large to swal low without a big gulp. Amikii** Flutter. A Miarprl** Party. On Wednesday evening last, the class of Mr. A. 1). Marchant, from Broad Street Church, headed by himself, proceeded quietly to tho house of thoir pastor, Rev. 14. F. Breedlove, and deposited thoir gifts. How pleasant this, to bo remembered in times of scarcity, such os now surround tho homos of many in our midst. It was an appreciative class, and would that our city churches had many such within their folds. It Is needless ts say Mr. Breedlove and family fully appreciated tho ugrecablo surprise, and returned thanks In his usual graceful style. The family no doubt retired with a deeper sense of cbligatlon to the Giver of all good for is providences, and a warmer place in their affections toward tho p*o ple they serve. The ruomlM*rship of Broad Street Church abound in djeds of Christian charity, and deserve the praise <jf the people. Short K4ut*. We learn that a short route to the North is soon to bo arranged on the South & North Railroad and that tho trip to New York can bo made on it considerably quicker than on any route now in use from this point. The exact time proposed wo have forgotten, but it is quick, and ii the railroad authorities carry out their intentions they will greatly accommo date tho traveling public. Quick routes are now all tho go. Throe or four new ones are promised from Atlanta soon. People seem to want to go faster, as the world progresses. (Jompluints have al ready boon uttered at the slowness of railroads, and Keely wants to whirl us along through space faster than steam ever can. What are wo coming to is a pertinent question. Tho total receipts of cotton at Opelika since September Ist, have amounted to 903 bales up to this week. Receipts for the pres ent week 623, making total receipts for the present season 1,426 bales. The proficiency displayed is remarkable, and accounts for the line singing of the school. Still they come and the dollars go. We heard of a man not long ago who left a pleasant home in Middle Georgia and moved to the coast just to enjoy the luxury of flsh and oysters and other bless ings afforded by the sea. People born and raised on the coast are seldom content to live in the interior in after life. It deems to us that the supply of pine in this county is pretty good.
