two ('AiTtima yesterday and their
BOOTY HETOVRRED.
Yesterday morning Marshal Robinson,
assisted by Policemen John Brady and
Josh Uo|*r, succeeded la r apturing two
horse thieves, who came all the way from
Murray county, In tho northern part of
this State. It seems Hint Marshal Robin
son was rather on the lookout for horse
thieves, having a few days ago received a
telegram from Shorter's Station that a
mare had been stolen there. He was sit
ting In front of Munday’s Btablo yester
day morning, when two men rude up on
fine horses and commenced to talk about
selling thorn. One of them was a youtii of
about seventeen, and the other u middle
aged man. Tho younger stopped at the
stable and engaged In conversation with
parties there abont tho sale of his horse.
Ho offered Hie fine animal very cheap, and
this aroused some suspicion. The elder
rode on down to Laytleld'* corner, where
ho stopped.
Marshal Robinson hoard a negro In the
stable remark that lio knew the man at
Uio oomer—the elder of the two St rangers;
that he had worked with him, and that his
name was William Crosslin He (Robin
son) then asked tho young man what his
companion’s name wus, and he said It was
William Thomas. This discrepancy ex
cited further suspicion, and Marshal Rob
inson sent Polioemen Brady and Roper to
the corner to detain the man who had
stopped there. They brought him back
to the stable and both of tho men were
then arrested ou suspicion aroused by
their ik induct and by what the negro bad
said.
The elder acknowledged that his name
was Willlom Orossln, anil the other tried
to cover hla concealment of the true name
in u bunglesome manner. The younger
man gave Ills name as Henry Cooper.
After some delay at tho stable, the two
men were carried to the guard-house.
They were separated. Marshal Robinson
took young Cooper aside and asked him
to tell the whole truth about the horses,
which ho proceeded to do tn a very frank
manner. Ho told the whole story, and did
not soein to (Kinceal any circumstance
whatever.
He stated that he and Crosslm ids com
panion, hail stolen thu two horses from
James Petty aud Clay Jones, two farmers
who live dear each other In Murray coun
ty. They reside about six miles from Til
ton, a smalt station on the Western A At
lantic Railroad.
Marshal Robinson, after hearing Coop
er's confession, went to Croraln and asked
him if It was true. He hesitated, and then
confirmed It In all Its particulars.
A telegram was Immediately sent to the
owners of the horses, but owing to Hie dis
tance of their residence from telegraphic
communication, no answer was received
yesterday.
The men are still In custody hero. After
their own full confessions, their guilt np
pears very plain, and they will, in all prob
ability, receive the just recompense of the
violated law.
Our Marshal and his assistant police
men deserve great credit for the tacit with
which they managed tills cose, and which
resulted In tile capture of two gross viola
tors of s law, to the disregard of which a
heavy penalty Is attached.
Doubtless tliore will be news from Mur
ray county Monday morning, and the two
culprits will be carried back for u fair and
impartial trial on tho scene of their past
lives and their recent notable labors.

The open qjr mating on the South Com

so interesting, were discontinued Home
days ago on account of the inclement,
weather. A meeting will bo held to-night
at the saino place on tho South Commons,
and there will be no services at any of the
churches, to allow all who wish to attend,
an opportunity for so doing. Rev. It. J.
Corley, pastor of Kt. Luke church will

should tho weather prove pleasant, fully
I, people will assemble around the
stand to-uight. There are acute prepared
for about IKK). Several times during tho
progross of the meetings held there tho
seats were tilled completely, and hundreds
were wtunding around on the outside of
them.
It Is said by close observers that many
people are reached by means of these
open air meetings who are never to be
seen In churches, and who seldom have
heard tho gospel preached. Those' en

THE TIMES: SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 3, 1875.
C om In*.
Not the lightning rod man, for he has
gone from among us. No more his red
wagon kindles in the bosom of the colored
troop lively hopes of another circus.
Gone ! but we sorrow not as one without
hope, for the equinoctial storm lain bis
make.
Gone too, the cigar man, and his lues
we doeply deplore. Hlh “sample#" were
good; aye and we hIuIII not look upon
their like again. No, not till hla kind coun
tenance, beam son us again, with “an en
tirely new brand."
The eewlng machine man will soon be
with ua, but him we can hear; a mild af
fliction com paratl vel y.
No measles, to the small pox, Is he to the
lightning rod man aud insurance agent.
Rural as to hi# habits and one-horse
as to hla transportation; his corning is a
source of anxiety indeed, but not of fearful
apprehension; albeit he parts his hair in
the middle. But he is coming, the book
agent. Ye that have tears, prepare to
shod them now.
The insurance agent is a man of one
idea; he talks of death, with special ref
erence to temporal affairs; and premiums
are cash. A plea for credit Is an infalli
ble antidote against him; as fatal as Paris
Green to a caterpillar.
Not so the bank agent; he will discourse
you at all times, at all places, under all
circumstances, and on all subjects; he at
tacks indiscriminately, without regard to
age, sex, or “previous condition."
“Engaged in a benevolent work, and
having just exactly the book you need,"
he is accommodating without stint, and
familiar without ceremony.
Will sell for cash; for part payment; on
time, or without limitations or conditions.
He never makes a bad debt; for Nature
or the tide of Immigration have not yet
brought the individual so obdurate os not
gladly to yield before the third call.
He is coming; his visitations have be
gun ; prepare for the worst.
Glad would we be to make some sugges
tions tending to relief; but as the time,
place, abreuinstances, or mode attack are
beyond the stretch of prophecy, advice
would be conjecture only.
All that can bo done is to disclose to a
generous public some of the usual tactics.
Our "special circular to agents," says:
from the prospectus and circulars get
ideas and (stints; convert them into your
own language, commit It to memory, go
off alone and rehearse, until you can natu
rally, and earnestly, talk of your book a
full half hour in an unbroken strain.
Being thus prepared you have confi
dence in yourself. You are master of tin*
situation.
Another says;
"Homo will buy for one reason, some for
another. One l>oottusc he likes the book;
one because he wants a complete library;
one becauso he, would like to give it to
somebody; one because be has’nt time to
talk to you; another it may be to get rid
of you; but what do you care so you sell
the book. Throe-fifths, you see, buy when
they don’t want the iook.
Another says;
Frequently you can sell to an Illiterate
person, and O! the good that, book may
do! The aspirations that it may awaken,
the purposes that it may engender, and
the improvement in all good and holy
things that it may bring about, are away
beyond any calculation.
Precisely; tbe more ho can’t read the
more he la benetttitxl.
Aim! the "aapi ration*," tbe “purpose*?"
and the “improvement” ore “away beyond
any caftMtlltiet).'*

The demand for Dr. J. Bradfleki’s Fe- j
male Regulator is beyond precedent in j
the annals of popular remedies. Orders
come in so thick and fast that the Propri
etor has, heretofore been unable to fill
them all. He is happy to state that ar
rangements arc now complete by which
he is prepared to manufacture Female
Regulator on a scale equal to the emer
gency, and the public may fed assured
that their wants may now be supplied.
Physicians of high repute are using this
great remedy. In daily practice, all over
Georgia. Hereafter no woman need suf
fer from suppressed, suspeaded or irreg
ular menstruation. This valuable medi
cine is prepared by L. H. brad held. Drug
gist, Atlanta, Ga., and sold at $1.50 per
bottle by druggists throughout America
HEARTY BLOOMING WIDOW.
Marietta, Ga., March 9, 1870.
Mejurrs. BradJU ld A Q>.:
Gentlemen—You will please ship us an
other supply of your invaluable Female
Regulator, and forward bill by mail. We
are happy to state that this remedy gives
better satisfaction, than any article we
sell. We have been selling it since IWH,
and witnessed many remarkable cures by
it Among others, there was a lady
friend of ours who was sallow and sickly
until she was twenty-six years old, when
she was married. Her husband lived two
years and died. She continued in bad
health; in fact, she has never been what j
a woman ought to be. A few months .
after the death of her husband she saw
your advertisement sod came to our
store and bought a bottle of your Regula
tor from us. and took it according to di
rections. It has cured her sound and
well, brought her regular monthly peri
ods on, and to-day she is a hearty, bloom
ing widow —with the use of but two bot
tles of your Regulator, costing her only
three dollars, when she had tried several
physicians and spent a great deal of
money without any benefit Wishing you
great* success with your valuable reme
dies, we are, respectfully yours, etc.,
