night before last, poisoned her in
fant child by mistake. The child was
only a few mouths old, and had been
sick. Tho mother in attempting 10
give the medicine, administered by
mistake half a grain of morphine.
As soon as the mistuko wus discover
ed a physician was sent for, who did
all in his power to save it, hut with
out avail. Tlie child died yesterday
morning.
In this instance a mother's anguish
Is clearly due to neglect. We ossert
that no law in tho hind Is so
defective as that pertaining to
tho sale of drugs in Georgia.
No one should he allowed to buy
a poisonous drug from a pharmacist,
without a prescription or order from
his or her attending physician.
Neither ought clerks employed by
Apothecaries to be allowed unre
stricted license to sell drugs unless
they have proved themselves quail
tied before tho pro(>er tribunal. let
all clerks in drug stores not so quail
lied be limited to tlie sale of articles,
not drugs. In order to show the im
portance of this .suggestion, we give
below the resolutions adopted by tire

suggest that similar sanitary precau

Georgia, a graduate or the Universi
ty of Toronto, Canada, was elected
Professor In Dr. llrouit's chair. Mr.
Gumming is a son of Dr. William
Henry Cumming, of our State, and
took the medal offered by the Prince
>f Wales for general scholarly proll
oleticy.
