We notice that grass is being cut In the Baptist churchyard, and In the Court House Square. If a luxuriant yield of grasa for ornamental purposes is desired, this plan, as well ss that of using these lots as pasturage for cows, Is not likely to produce the dealrod result. Grass, like every other crop, if not manured will yield a diminished crop each year, and the soil will become annually less adapted to its growth if something be not return -11>> it. The boat plan to adopt is that which Is pursued almost universally of mowing the grass often, and never ullowlng It to get a foot In height. By this plan a sod is formed and the lawn presents an even ap pearance. and t>ecoma annually more lux uriant. A good mower can mow the grass In the Baptist churchyard in one day. Tkk Troubadour! 1-uot Night. There was so many good points in the exhibition last night, that we have not space to tell our readers that did not at tend what they missed. It was decidedly the best entertainment wo hare ultended this season. Tho first thing on the pro gramme was excellent, and kept up the nigh Stan load to tho very close. The first was an Instrumental piece entitled “A Thousand and one Nights.” Whoever was the performer, aid It excellently. Then followed the comedy ’’Sailing under False Colors,” which was highly enjoyable. The performance concluded with the farce en titled ’’Patchwork.” The beet feature of the entertainment was the "Guitar Man" who so frequently appeared before the footlights to acknow ledge the applause of the audience. Next to this, we would give tile palm to the ren dition of the Maruean's from the Opera liouffe, particularly that from the “Grand Duchesne dcGerolsteln.” The wnole entertainment may be dm scribed as the person tries tion of fun. The audience was soon in accord with the actors, and then the fun commenced. It was a mingling of humor, rendered the mure pungent by the local "bits," with a representation of character as in real life, that was strikingly faithful. The vocal music was not in Itself excellent, but added very materially to the Interest of the entertainment. The poorest thing in the performance was the “Squeak Family." The most admirable fealuro probably was the acting and elocution of Mr. N. Salisbury, who personated the various stag, sof human iiaselon, pathetic as well as tragic. The comic figure (of Oliver Wren well suited his ’’role.'* The dancing was excellent, that of Miss Granville being parlieularly graceful. Miss McHenry wss very sprightly and vivacious and won applause. The “Troubadours" constitute a bur lesque troupe, the members of which are evidently accustomed to a better and larg er audteuoo than greeted thorn last night. They deserve a full house. There is noth ing iu their auttng inelegant, or that would offend the most fastidious. Go out to-night, by ail means, and enjoy yourself. Tliey have mu entire change of programme. KpliMllc la lluiwa. This disease, which swept over this en tire country aud proved so serious in tho tail of 1872, to appearing again thia fall, though probably in a milder form. Near ly all tho horses of this nud other cities are affected with It already, and It is cer tain to spread to the country very soon. Uurses that are in good condition will suf fer the least from its attack. Its first symptom is a slight cough, which gradu ally becomes more frequeut aud severe, accompanied with running at tho nose and swelling of Die throat between the jaw bones. Horses that are iu good hourt and are properly lakeu care of will probably only bo slightly affected. A writer in the Ohio Farmer advises the simplest treatment possible. Keep the horses in a warm, comfortable, clean, and well ventilated stable, blanketed in wet, cold weather; feed well with oats and sweet hay (cum is too heatlnglwith a good bran mash once a day; the only medicine meded is to thoroughly n.b the throat with some good hutment If it should be come much swollen, and be very careful not to let I hem take cold. A llttto exercise every day at light work or careful driving, we deem beneficial; but any violent exer cise, or anything approaching over exer tion, will be almusl certain to produce se rious results. The aim should be to keep the horse In as strong heart as possible, and nature ■will soon work out the diaease. The usu al term of this distressing and destructive malady is from twelve to twenty days.
