ed our earn was the solemn tolling of the

on such occasions, and found the lire In
Uoeeiiburg's cotton pickery; damage was
slight. Our visit to the Fair Grounds was
of short duration. We, however, saw the

It is truly encouraging for the visitor to
go through the Agricultural department.
We saw someot the line-1 ear corn that
has ever come under our supervision. The
corn was made by Mrs. Turnley, of Lau
derdale county, Ala. I thoroughly exam
ined four carriages snd wagons made b>
Mr. W. B. Gill, of this city; no better ma
terial or designs were ever made In New
Jersey or Connecticut. I challenge oui
friend Woodrufl, “or any other man,’t
produce anything in the way of wsgom
superior to Uiose found on exhibitUm at
the Fair grounds. In all the department;
of agriculture every article on exhibitioi
prove that our pi -lifters arenrw in earnest
as regards cereals. Cotton —some of th*
