From the State Experimental | Farm, West Grove, Pennsylvania, , tne Superintendent, John I. Cuner, furnishes the Journal of the Farm with some very interesting experi ments on the culture of the wheat crop. We gather from this the fact that to broadcast the wheat and harrow in, produced more than that which was drilled. That 2 bushels of wheat-, per acre drilled, made more than lj : bushels per acre drilled. That two' bushels broadcast aud plowed in 5 shallow, made 21 bushels, when two j bushels harrowed in, made 23 bushels I tier acre. He remarked that "for the last six years the exiierimeuts on I this farm have been in favor of broadcast seeding of wheat.” We And, also, that in his experiments! with thirteen different kinds of tna- | nures, (stable included,* that the; "Bone Phosphate" gave the largest; yield by several bushels per acre; cost being the same. How to wlp Dr. Hall says: Cold bed chambers ; always imperil health and invite; fatal diseases. Robust persons may | safely sleep in a temperature of forty or under, but the old, the infant or the frail, should never sleep in a room where the temperature is much un der fifty degrees of Fahrenheit. All know the danger of going direct into a cold from a very warm room. Very few rooms, churches, theatres and the like, are even warmer than seventy decrees. If it is freezing out of doors it is thirty degrees—the dif ference being forty degrees more. 5 Persons will be chilled by such a I change in ten minutes, although I tbey may be actively walking. Dm to lie still in bed, nothing to promote ! the circulation ami breathe for hours an atmosphere of forty and even fifty degrees, when the lungs are always ninety eight, is too great a change. Many persons wake up iu the morn ing witli inflammation of the lungs who went to bed well, and are sur prised that this should he the case. The cause may be often found in sleeping in a room the window of which has been foolishly hoisted fur ventilation. The water cure journals of the country have done tin incal culable iujury by the blind and in discriminate advice of hoisting tin-: window at night. The rule should be everywhere during the part of tin year when tires tire kept burn ing, to avoid hoisting outside win dows. It is safer and better to leave the chamber door o(Km. as also the llreplace—then there is a draft up the chimney, while the room is not so likely to become cold. If there is some fire in the room all night the window may be opened an inch. It is safer to sleep in a bad air all night with a temperature over fifty, than in a pure air witli a temperature un der forty. The bail air may sicken you, but it cannot kill you ; and cold air can and does kill very often. An old bachelor wlto died recently left a will dividing all tiis property equally among tin- surviving women who hud refused him, "because,” said he, “to them I owe all my earth ly happiness.” The large man in tbo black bat, who goes into offices and asks for a pencil and a small slip of paper to write a few words, and then carries off the [tenell—he will never go to Heaven.---Courier-Journal. If the watery portions of our food are m>t pass 'd off. they must, when retained in the system, produce serious difficulties. Language fails •vhou attempting to describe tho suffering!! of per sous whose kidneys are out of order ; gravid, •ack-ache, iutiammation of the bladder and of tin lrllrate membranes of the urinary organs are the result if the water is not regularly and properly carried'through the kidneys. Whatever portion of our food is unserviceable should be passed off in the water in sweat, aim from the bowels. If these useless matters are retained disease is sure to follow, for then the olood becomes poisoned with the impurities which should pass off in their proper channels. The Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills is a powerful cleanser of the blood; it starts the liver and kidneys into active operation, and acts m all the secretions of the body. THE CORDIAL BALM OF SYIU CUM AND TONIC PILLS is a sure cure for tbo habitual use of Mor phine, so extensively used in this country as a stimulant. It will in a very short time com pletely destroy the desire for tnis narcototic. We have many testimonials from the first fami lies in Europe and America, who testify to its efficacy. OPIUM. The alarming increase of the use of this most pernicious drug as a stiuiulaut, by male and fe male, and its peculiar effects, completely destroy ing the digestive apparatus and shattering the nervous system, effeminating and debasing the mind, renders The Cordial Balm of Syricuin and Tonic Pills of inestimable value, as it completely destroys all desire for this most baneful drug, aud restores the nerves to a perfectly healthy state, even in cases where opium has been used in largo quanti ties and for a number of years. [Davenport Democrat, Davenport, lowa.) How few people are found without some indi cations of nervous disease. This truth has been recognized ever since classic ages, when a sound mind iu a sound body was held as the perfection of human existence.
