During the present year he h is really been the Marshal of the city, and has proven himself fully equal to the responsibilities of that position. Hla psst record Is as good as any man can show. 11l 1856 ho fought against John Brown in Kunsas. When the war broke out he en tered the Confederate service arid fought gallantly through tho whole struggle. At Sharpsburg hojwas among the very first to storm u strong battery, and in that fight was terribly wounded. Soon after this, bis regiment conferred a great favor upon him for bis bravery in the battle. He was voted tiie battle Hag of the com mand, which ho carried through the war and still lias In tils possession. Since the war lie lias tieen among our people and has discharged all his duties both as a citizen and aft officer. He now comes bc orethe i>eoplo as a candidate for Mar shal. It is understood that the affair is in the hands of a fair authoress of Columbus, but now residing in Nw York, assisted by a popular bank er, and the energetic Secretary of tho Eu gle and Phenix Manufacturing Company In connection with this we also learned that Mr. J. Winn Moses had consented to deliver one of his humorous lecture* for the benefit of tho Memorial Fund. From these two sources the citizens ol Columbus will experience a rare treat. Defaulting WIIMe*. Election to-day. After you vote, come back by Crigler’s and take a chance at his elegant drygoods that are t>elng sold regardless of cost. It Is said that Tennyson wrote “Come into the garden, Mau4, ‘fifty times before he got jt right, arid forty-live of those time* he wrote tt “Come into the garden mud.” The Independent says: It i* strange that in a country where young ladles are so generally beautiful So few of them should be sufficiently beautiful to serve a* nodels. * A fool in a high station Is like a man on tho Pip of a high mountain—everything tppears small Pi him, and he appears small to everybody. Remember to-day to vote ofpm and iarly for your favorite candidate. To make a man a drunkard give him a wife who will scold him every time he comes home.—Exchange. To make a wife scold, give her a husband who is “soaky" every time he comes homo. Origler is still selling the very best of dry goods for less than Cost. Don't, for get It. Young ladies who are accustomed to read newspapers are always observed to possess winning ways, most amiable dis positions, invariably make good wives, and always select good husbands. A goat followed a Louisville girl two miles the other day, and she was finally obliged to rush InPi a house P> escape the wrath of tho infuriated animal. Thogirl's striped shirking* caused the trouble. Stanley writes that the last African King he met, had but throe hundred wives. In Africa a King with but three hundred wives is looked upon by tho girts as almost a widower. Benjamin Franklin was undoubtedly a very good and wise man. But wo oeea slonly hear Some very damaging reports about hisearly life. It ts sad to think that his character is assailed wiLli the grave charge that he once crawled under a barn to oat an apple, Pi get out of the way of his little brother, who wanted a piece. TheOounty Treasurer on yesterday paid to Jurors and Bailiffs $277. A Nashua man sang, “Don’t be angry with me, darling!" while he larruped Ids wife with a stirrup-strap. But she got the hulgo on him, and sPiod on his sPnnach, while she strewed It let Hyperion curls about the kitchen Hour, and warbled, as she twined her lily fingers in his auburu locks, “Darling! you are growing bald.” Crigler will be glad to have everybody Inspect Ills fine stock of dry goods. A Fltluble Accident. Yesterday we saw a pitiable sight In the shape of an Intelligent negro child of four years. He had tho bad fortune to let a chop-axe tail on his face, and to have his nose almost entirely severed. The child bled profusely and the nose wins hanging by a small piece of liesh. The parents of the child had Pi bring him in eight miles to get medical attention. We saw them shortly Afterward and In stead of a hanging and disfigured nose the nose was intact aud the little negro all right. They had called upon Dr. F. A. Stanford and he had fixed the little follow ed right. This evidence of Dr. Stanford’s skill as a surgeon adds to his reputation that he gained as Medical Director of Wheeler's Corps. No Court To-do j-. Owing to tho city election to-day Judge Crawford adjourned court until Monday. Now every hotly has a chanoe to go the polls and work hard for their favorite candidate. It Is hard to tell who will be elected, but we will try and tell tho read ers of tbe Times to-morrow morning. One thing certain; all can't tie elected, and somebody has pi be disappointed. Who will it be? Lot us huve good men for olfice, and from the number running, it will bo an easy matter to accomplish. JI tippy ('MI Wiiguer. Wo received a call yesterday from Mr Geo. B. Bradiield, Drug f;ist, Atlanta, Ga., and sold at $1.50 per Kittle by druggists throughout America hearty blooming widow. 31 arietta, Ga., March 9,1870. •Messrs. BrailfieUl dc Cos.;: Gentlemen—You will please ship us an other supply of your invaluable Female Regulator, and forward bill by mail. We are happy to state that this remedy gives better satisfaction than any article we sell. We have been soiling it since 1868, and witnessed many remarkable cures by it. Among others, there was a lady friend of ours who was sallow and sickly until she was twenty-six years old, when she wan married. Her husband lived two years and died. Bhe continued in bed health; in fact, she has never been what a woman ought to be. A few months after the death of her husband she saw your advertisement, and came to our store and bought a bottle of your Regula tor from us, and took it according to di rections. It has cured her sound and well, brought her regular mouthly peri ods on, and to-day she is a hearty, bloom ing widow—with the use of but two bot tles of your Regulator, costing her only three dollars, when she had tried several physicians and spent a great deal of money without any benefit. Wishing you great success with your valuable reme dies, we are, respectfully yours, etc., W. Root A 8. ap2S ly Muscogee Sheriff Sales.
