•fulltime in Time.
Going up the street, about ten
o’clock one night recently, a citizen
heard the sounds of a fiddle, a banjo
and a tumborino. As ho neared the
point from which they proceeded, he
heard the footsteps keeping time to
music, and a voice calling out the fig
ures of a cotillon. He soon learned
it was a negro wedding frolic. Just
as he arrived in front of the house a
loud, angry voice called out:
“Stop out music inuneedyately!”
It stopped, uud the dancing sud
denly ceased in the midst of the fig
ure.
“What’s do ninttah, Sam!” said
another voice; “wbat do you mean
by stoppin’de dance?”
"I means 'zactly what I say!” an
swered Sum; '‘l ’gaged dat band
myself to play for dis party; Ise do
boss of dis ’elision; do band shaut
play any mo’! Bis party shunt go
on: do bull’s broke up. Geinmeu
and ludies, you cunull go home!”
“What in de name of senseis do
mattah wid dat uiggah?” was the
speech that come from all parts of
the room. “What’s de mattah, Sam,
you talk like u crzy uiggah !”
“No, Ise not crazy!” said the one
addressed, “Iso gwine to have a di
voce! Ise gwine to have a divoce!
Bat’s what Ise gwine to have!”
•‘Bivoce! Bivoce!” spoke several
voices together. “What’s dat nigguh
thinkin’ ’bout? He Hint bin married
raoro’n two hours, and uow he’s talk
in ’bout gittin a divoce. He’s crazy,
sho.’ You’s crazy, Sam!”
“I tell you Ise not crazy.” said the
latter. Here Ise bin courtin Lucin
da for two years, with honorable iu
tenshuns, and she’s bin tnakin me
believe she had money; dat she was
rich, and now she tells me she ain’t
got but a dolla a dollu. Stop de
music, Isay! Bis party’s broke up.
When dis chile marries a gul for her
money, she’s got to have more’n a
dolla, or I wont live with her a miuit.
Ise gwine to quit in time. What's u
dolla to a man wid a family?”
“Bat’s more’n you’ve got, anyhow,
you good for nuiiln, lazy, no account
uiggah, you!” here chimed in Lucin
da.
“Nex time I marry for money, its
got to bo counted out befo’de preach
er ties de knot.” saiil Sam. “Ise
gwine to get adivoroeimmee iyately?”
Such an uproar was tuised by this
speech the citizen could not under
stand any more that was said, and lie
passed on homeward, thinking that
was the shortest honeymoon of which
he had ever heard.
Of course Sam is pushing matters
for a “divorce.”
“What’s a dolla’ to a man wid a
family?”—Louisville Ledger.
Brel Harle.
liret Harte was lecturing in Penn
sylvania a short time ago. At one of
his appointments he felt very much
depressed. It is a peculiarity of hu
morists, we are told, to be unaccount -
ably melancholy and gloomy tit
times. Harte was in this mood now.
One of the committee went in back
of the scenes to see him, and the de
pressed humorist welcomed him as a
gleum of unusual good sunshine.
They shook hands -Harte earnestly,
and the committee man decorously. ,
“Mr. Harte,” he said gravely, “you
will find this an unusually healthy ;
city.”
“Ah!” said the pleased humorist.
“Yes. The death rate is only one a j
day.
At this juncture Harte took the j
committee mail by the arm, and hur
riedly asked :
“Is he dead?”
“Bead!” ejaculated the committee j
man. “Who dead?”
“Why, the man for to day?” was
the grave reply.
The committee man stared with all
his might into the immovable face of
the lecturer.
“Isn’t there a clerk here, or regis
trar, or coroner, or something like
that, of whom you could lind out
whether a man for this day had
died?”
“Why, yes, I suppose so,” slowly
replied the committee man.
“Would you be so good, then, to
find out,and before Icommence the
lecture, if possible, whether that
man is dead? If he is dead, then I
am ail right, for I am to leave ttie
eity early to-morrow morning; but
if he isn’t dead I cannot help but feel
uneusy about myself, and 1 am not
well to-night.”
The kind-hearted committee man
immediately hurried away to get the
information.
When in his room at the hotel that
night a servant told him a gentleman
wished him to step downstairs in the
hall as he wanted to see him. Mr.
Harte went down, and there ruet the
committee man.
“1 am, sorry Mr. Harte, to disturb
you,” lie said; “but I could not get
that information earlier. It is all
right.. That death rate I spoke of
was merely the average.”
A MctKiol Boy on Turtle...
The Watkins Express prints the
following as an “original’* composi
tion, the production ofa pupil in one
of the primary departments of the
Watkins Union School:
A turtle is a reptile. It lias a head
like a snake, ami a little sharp tail
and four claws like an alligator. The
rest of him lives inside the bones so I
don’t know what he looks like.
The bones are outside aud arc called
the shell.
They live a great many years. They
are very ugly and stupid ami I don’t
think you could tame them if you
tried ail summer.
I suppose they are good for some
thing but I don’t kuow wiiut It is.
It is fun to catch them.
In some countries but not in this
they keep them around the house to
kill bugs.
A turtle has no teeth ; but it don’t
make any difference, for there are
bones in their mouths and they can
hold on to a stick all day if you stay
and puli.
I ctOD’t believe theyeverdie hardly.
I don’t know how I should go to
work to kill a turtle unless I smashed
him with a big hammer. The shells
are real pretty when you have boiled
the turtle partly out. They livo all
winter like bears without nothing to
eat. I don’t see how they do it. I
think they are awful homelv. Their
eyes look as if they were set in upside
down. They mostly stay in the same
place.
It takes them a long while to get
anywhere.
There are a great many kinds of
turtles, and some are good to eat.
This is all I can think of about tur
tles.

are silent on the subject of this disease. A false

Bleepless nights, twitching of the muscles,
trembling ot the limbs, poor appetite, easily dis
turbed by noise or excitement, pimples and
blotches on t he face, desire to avoid company, pe

I the difficulties which attend this compluint.
The Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills
will in .i short time ho eleaneo the blood and

No other remedy will cure Epilepsy or Fits mo

Kidney Diseases
and many other difficulties aro cured by the use
of the Cordial Balm of Syrup aud Tonic Pills.
If the watery portions of our food are not pass
ed off, they must, wlieu retained in the system,
produce serious difficulties. Language fails
when attempting to describe the sufferings of per
sons whose kidneys aro out of order ; gravel,
back-ache, inflammation of the bladder and of the
delicate membranes of the urinary organs aro the
rCsult if the water is u*t regularly and properly
carried through tho kidneys.
The Cordial Balm of Syricum
Is effectual In promoting the secretion of the wa
tery and unuutntioiiH portions of the food, and
in carrying it.off by its proper outlets.
Whatever portion of our food is unserviceable
should be passed off in the water iu sweat, and
from the bowels. If these useless mutters are
retained disease is sure to follow, for then the
j blood becomes poisoned with tho impurities
i which should pass off iu their proper channels,
The Cordial Bairn of Syricum and Tonic Pills
is a powerful cleanser of the blood; it starts tbo
liver aud kidneys into active operation, aud acts
on all the secretions of the body. It carries off
old and foul elements in the blood, which are
slow aud sure death if allowed to remain iu the
system.
