WIT ASH HIHOII —“Crooked whiskey," says an ex change, "istheßU!ff for a bonder;” but it gets a man into sad straits.” —lt has beeu decided by an emi nent divine that there is no sunset in heaven ; and it is likely there Is no sunrise in the other place. A train of cars on a Florida rail road ]Hissed a man on horseback, and there wus a great hurrahing among the passengers until they discovered that the mule wus tied to the fence. —A middle-aged gentleman, deeply interested in the Centennial, asked a miss of sweet sixteen if she knew what Important event 1876 would be noted for. and she responded, “Leap year.”—Norristown Herald. It is said that some people have what is called “spontaneity,” and some havn’t: but nobody ever sat down on a pincushion yet without manifesting something surprisingly like it. —A Duluth girl married a young man because he lifted his liftt so beautiful as he passed her. She after wards got a divorce because he lifted the table so beautiful when the din ner didn’t suit him. —A few days since a man convicted of drunkeness stood up before his Honorat the Police Court, and his Honor said in his slow, solemn way, “I’ll give you $lO or thirty days.” “Well, I’ll take the $lO, ’Squire,” re plied the fellow. —“You’re always off at nights, Le ander,” said Mrs. Spilkins, reproach fully, the other eveuing. “Yes. my dear,” replied Spilkins; “you’ll re member, even when I first proposed, you considered me a pretty good off-er.” —The Courier-Journal says: A po etical New Yorker, learning that the late N. P. Willis named his residence “Glen Mary,” after his wife, conclu ded that that was just about the right thing to do, and so he calls his house “Glen Matilda Jane.” “Are you a Christian?” asked Mrs. Van Cott at a revival meeting, of a news[>ai>er man who had taken a front seat, that ho might better re port the proceedings. “I guess not,” said he, “I’m reporter.” She passed on to a more hopeful case. , A Dunbury man wishing to engage several bushels of potatoes from a party iu the suburbs, asked a neigh bor what sort of a man he was. “Well,” said the conscientious neigh bor, “I don’t know very much about, him, but I should thiuk he would make a tip top stranger.” —“Zachariah,” said Mrs. Chandler, “what smell is that?” “Cloves.” “But isn’t there another?” “Yes apples.” “And just one more?” “Ci der, my dear.” “Well Zachariah,” saia she, “if you’d only drink a little brandy now you’d make a good mince pio.” —Little Jesse Pomeroy told his jail keeper that he had read over lifty dime novels, The pious warden roll ed up his eyes in horror at the intel ligence, and asked Jesse if he wasn’t afraid to die. “No, I aint,” said the boy, doggedly; “but I hope they won’t hang me till I’ve read Bessie Turner’s novel.” —Prose. Laura f who is still a tri fle romantic); “Don’t you think there N is something very solemn about the fall of the dead loaves, Reginald?” Keginald, her husband (who lias outgrown his romance?: “Very.” Pause. “Talking of dead leaves, what the douce and all have I done with my tobacco?” —Dnring a recent examination of a class of youngsters in one of the Che mung county schools, the teacher asked: “Whatis a monarchy?” and was immediately answered by a bright little eight-vear-old bey: “A country governed by aking.” “Who would rule if the king should die?” “The queen.” “And if the queen should, who would then be ruler?” “The jack.” A Detroit boy paid his iirst visit to one of the Union schools the other day as a scholor, and when he came home at night his mother inquired : “Well, Henry, how do you like going to school?” “Bully!” he replied in an excited voice, “I saw four boys licked, one girl got her ear pulled, and a big scholar burned his elbow on the stove. I don’t want to miss a day.” —He sat in a railway ear. His head was thickly covered with a mass of red hair. Behind him in a seat sat a mar. with hardly any hair on his head. He said to him, “I guess you wasn’t around when they deult out hair.” “Oh, yes, I was,” replied bald head, "but they offered me a lot of red hair, and I told them to throw it in the ash bin.”-Poughkeepsie Eagle. —The attitude of Europe toward Turkey reminds one of the oarrica ture in which the housewife D repre sented as coming into the poultry yard with the remark, “My dear chickens, I was just thinking whether I would have you served up roast or stewed.” Whereupon the chickens respond, “But we don’t want to be killed.” “Ahl my dear chickens,” says she, “you wander from the point.” Tit fob Tat.—“ How long have you been in England ?” was the question put by a youug Englishman to a young American at a public dinner in London recently. “About two weeks,” was the reply. “Really,” was the rejoinder of young John Bull, “and I notice you talk our lan guage as well as we do!” “Yes,” was the reply of the youthful Brother Jonathan, “I have not been here quite long enough to forget how to speak it.” —Nothing like musical advertising. After the “Ginger Polka” and the “Wine of the Woods Waltz,” we may soon expect to see the “(Soothing Sy rup Nocturne,” the “Anti-Toothache Gallop Infemale,” the “Ipecao Im promptu,” or the “Castor Oil Quick step.” Some grocer will come out with the ,“Sugar-cured Hams 1 Rev erie”; and his neighbor, the shoe maker, will be sure to issue the “Anti- Bunion Schottische.”—Commercial Advertiser. —The following story cotnes to us from London: “A gentleinun who was sending away his Irish butler for no exemplary conduct, but who like most masters, was willing to make the best of him when he wa3 going to plague somebody else, made this parting speech : ‘I have said you are honest, John, with a good conscience; but I have stretched a pont in saying you are sober.’ ‘Sure, your honor, could you not stretch another point, and say I am frequently sober?’ ” Fresh Groceries! KBIIVOVB IMEKII.rrX. Tho Press, the Pulpit and tho Lecture room are Hilent on the subject of this disease. A false delicacy withholds a knowledge in rogard to vio lation of Physiological Jaws, aud life-wrecks shattered humanity, Insanity, aud premature graves fill the world. No race, nation or pocl tiou is exempt from tbo soul-destroying scourge. Sleepless nights, twitching of the muscles, trembling of the limbs, poor appetite, easily dis turbed by noise or excitement, pimples and blotches on the face, desire to avoid company, pe culiar sensation over the whole body are among tho difficulties which attond this complaint. The Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills will in a short time so cleanse the blood and Boothe the nerves, and restore strength to the body, as to make life enjoyable and huppy. EPILEPSY Oil FITH. No other remedy will cure Epilepsy or Fits so quickly as the Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills. Kidney Diseases and many other difficulties are cured by the uge of the Cordial Balm of Syrup and Tonic Pills. It' the watery portious of our food are not pass ed off, they must, when retained iu the system, produce serious difficulties. Language fails when attempting to describe the sufferings of per sons whose kidneys are out of order ; gravel, back ache, inflammation of the bladder aud of the delicate membranes of the urinary organs are the result if tho water is not regularly and properly carried through the kidneys. The Cordial Balm of Syricum is effectual In promoting the secretion of the wa tery and unnutritious portions of the food, and in carrying it off by its proper outlets. Whatever portion of our food is unserviceable should he passed off iu the water in sweat, aud from the bowels. If these useless matters are retained disease is sure to follow, for then the blood becomes poisoned with the impurities which Bhould pass off iu their proper channels. The Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills is a powerful cleanser of the blood; it Btaria the liver aud kidneys into active operation, and acts oil all the secretions of the body. It carries off old and foul elements in the blood, which are slow aud sure death if allowed to remain in the system. DRUMBLEISrESS. THE CORDIAL BALM OF SYRI CUM AND TONIC TILES is the only remedy that has ever proved by prac tical experience a benefit to those who suffer from over-indulgonco in Alcoholic Liquors, it com pletely destroys the tastes for thorn, and restores the victim to health and vigor. A single trial will prove it to be lust what it is recommended to be. MORPHINB. THE CORDIAL BALM OF SYRI CUM AND TONIC PILLS is a sure enra for tho habitual use of Mor phine, so extensively used iu this country as a stimulant. It will in a very short time com pletely destroy the desire for this narcototic. We have many testimonials froiufhe first fami lies in Europe and America, who testify to its efficacy. OPIU M. The alarming Increase of the use of this most pernicious drug as a stimulant, by male and fe male, and its peculiar effects, completely destroy ing the digestive apparatus aud shattering the nervous system, effeminating aud debasing the mind, renders The Cordial Balm of Syricum and Tonic Pills of inestimable value, as it completely destroys all desire for this most baneful drug, and restores the nerves to a perfectly healthy Btate, even in cases where opium has been used in large quanti ties and for a uumber of years. [Davenport Democrat, Davenport, lowa.] How few people are found without some indi cations of nervous disease. This truth has been recognized ever since classic ages, when a sound mind in a soumi body was held as the perfection of human existence. 801110 from congenial dis ease, others from youthful indiscretions, some from alcoholic indulgence or too free use of to bacco, suffer from tremor, palpitation of nervous excitement—all of which can be removed aud per manently cured by the English Remedy, the Cor dial Balui of Syricum, which has long been in the old country the favorite remedy, and which, since its introduction into this dftuntry, has dis tanced all other medicines haviug the same ob ject in view.
