Suggestions as to the Exposition

Mr. J. A. Hill Proposes a Model of Lover s

General Remarks of Interest.
Aslong as the exposition aliip is in
process of erection, just so Jong willsug.
gcstion* continue to he made with refer
ence to it by anxious oiti/erm. These
biiggestloriH are almost always good anil
should commend themselves to the com
mittee oil exhibit for adoption.
Thr Times here mentions the latest
and heat suggestions made to it in re
gard to the ship.
Mr. J. A. Hill, a gentleman who has
been a citizen of Brunswick for it years,
makes a suggestion both available and
good. He suggests Unit, if possible, a
perfect miniature or model of Lover's
Oak be gotten up, encased in a suitable
box, and sent to Atlanta as a sample ol
Brunswick’s magnificent moss draped
trees. This would prove a valuable ad
dition to the already assured attractive
ness of Glynn's exhibit.
If a person could be secured, compe
tent to prepare the miniature, he should
be employed at once and put to work ou
it. After tlie limbs, etc,, have been
oarved, ttio ladies might properly take
liold nf the work of draping the tree with
real moan ami trimming it with lea von.
What could bo done to better repiene.nl
Brunswick's magnificent oaks?
SHV NOT AN AtJt'AltUIM?
Mr. ('laud Dart, a well known young
man of this city makes suggestion No.
a. He. advises the addition of a salt water
aijnarinm to the exhibit.
Hit plan is too-/,),-,, t I >,rirt -
scuure.lv .IgefliVr and* provided
With a bottom made of some kind of
metal. In the case, a thick layer of gen
uine salt mud to lie laid ami the ease to
he filled with salt water. It oould then
lie stocked with all kinds of fish, crabs,
oysters, el Bills, shrimp and even small
alligators. All these could be kept alive
during the time the ship will be on exhi
bition, by shipping from Hrimswick al
intervals of two days, a fresh supply ol
water from the bay. This would, indeed,
form one of tin; most attractive features
of the exhibit. Not only would it dis
play the products of Brunswick's sur
rounding wafers, but it would be. a cu
rious and interesting sight to all visitors.
Tltu Timks commends Mr. I hirt’s sug
gestion to the committee having the ex
hibit in charge.
StJUOKSTION No.
Air. J. .1. Collins' suggestion is one
uuiiNiitilly good, He proposes that a
papier macho model lie made of the bar- i
l>or, allowing docks, shipping, peninsula |
on which the city is built, salt marsh,
quarantine station nud surrounding is
laiids
This would show to better advantage
th. \ i evthing yet proposed, the ship
pin, laonifh of Brunsvviok andi.lynn
county. The bay could be represented
as well ns ships, steamers, oto., in the
harbor. The most attractive thing j
about this exhibit would tie the repre
scntstloe of the peninsula on whiclii
Brunswick is built, showing large and I
small trees, boulevard and other promiu- 1
cut features around the city. The water
towers, Oglethorpe and Ocean hotels,
and public buildings should be made
prominent.
Mr. Collins says that the model can be
made iu New Orleans from drawings,
which any architect can make.
lad, us have this feature prepared and
placed iu the most pi eminent position on
the ship. It would carry oonviotlon
with it, as to Brunswick and Olynn
county's advantages.
I'AMt Ol- IIi.ASSKS.
Air. ,i. K. B. Love has a pair of very
fine field glasses which he will give to
the ship os part of the exhibit.
There is quite a little -ton connected
with Mr. I .ove's possession of the glasses,
which he told to a Timks reporter yester
day.
Hevoral years ngo lie was telegraph
operator at Way cross. As the train from
Brunswick rolled up to the depot one
dav a destinguished looking man rushed
intojtho office and hurriedly stated that he
was just off a vessel from Havana and
was bound for Montgomery, Ala. While
in Havana he was presented with a pair]
of field glasses, which he prized highly,
on account of his attachment for the
former owner, So fearful was he that
they would get lost if he left them with
his baggage lie always carried them him,
lint in the hurry of boarding the tram iu
Brunswick he lost sight of them eu j
tirely, and would willingly pay hand- j
somoly for their reoovery aud return to j
him iu Montgomery.
Mr. Hove at onoe started the wires to
work and soon located the glasses, which
he expressed to Montgomery. For quite
awhile they lay unclaimed iu the Mont
gomery express olUce, after which they
were returned to Mr. Love as uncalled
for. Many efforts have beeu made since
to locate the owner but to no avail. The !
glasses are extraordinary strong ones aud ,
objects ton miles distant can be plainly !
seen and recoguizod by their use. The i
present owner has .been offered large j
sums for them, but refuses to si'll at any j
price.
There are few, if any, glasses in the!
Stale as powerful as these and they will
make a draw ing card for the exposition
ship.
Should all these attractive features
form a part of the Glynn's cargo, it. will
tie a gala day in Atlanta when she ar
rives.
The "xliihit itself is already an assured
fact. Contributions are rapidly coming
in; merchants are preparing articles for
exhibit; Capt. Merrifleld is engrossed in
the building of the ship; and, unless
something unforseen occurs, it will stir
pass the most sanguine anticipations of
the gentlemen having it in chargo.
