WITH US NEXT.
The Grand Lodge Will Accept
An Invitation to Come
Here in 1898.

The Knights Have Been Anxious to Meet
in Brunswick for Several Years and
Will Be Satisfied.
Adjutant H. M. Stanley, of the
Knights of Pythias, was in the city
Friday arranging for the attendance
of the Brunswick Uniform Rank on
the Grand Lodge meeting in Savan
nah.
Mr. Stanley says the meeting in Sa
vannah will be the most important
ever held by the Knights.
■ Mr. A. D. Gale, who is an aide-de
camp on the staff of General Harmon,
with the rank of major, is busily en
gaged in arranging the Brunswick
end of the demonstration, and there is
no doubt that the Oglethorpe division
will attend, and make a line record
for the various prizes,
The nest year’s Grand Lodge will
meet in Brunswick. This much is as
sured. The Pythians have had their
eye on Brunswick for several years,
and, if invited, they will readily and
eagerly consent to come. The meet
ing of the Grand Lodge will mean the
addition of from 1,500 to 2,000 popula
tion to Brunswick during the time of
the session.
It is understood that the necessary
invitation will be extended this time,
and the Pythians will invade Bruns
wick next year.

the city.
C. B. Willingham, of Macoo, is in
the city.
Col. C. P. Goodyear is out of the city
on business.
W. Lee Ellis, of Macon, is at the
Oglethorpe.
Mrs. J. C. Lehman will visit Al
bany this week.
B. Montane, of New York, was in
the city yesterday.
D. S. Fargason, of Darien, is in the
city at the Oglethorpe.
Sol Clarke, a well known traveling
man of Atlanta, is here. *
Miss Iv. Anderson, of Jacksonville,
was at the Oglethorpe yesterday.
Mr. J. Russell Kennedy returned
yesterday from a business trip up the
state.
Miss Katie Slater has gone to New
York to purchase a spring stock of
millinery.
J. D. Turner, wife and two children,
of Atlanta, were at the Oglethorpe
yesterday.
Mr. Schumann, a prominent phos
phate man of Ocala, was at the Ogle
thorpe yesterday.
Mrs. H. 11. Raymond and Mrs.
Joe Raymond left yesterday tor a
trip through Florida.
Mr. Eustace Futch was at home yes
terday, after a trip up the road in the
interest of the Brunswick Grocery
company.
Mr. George B. Cathart, the energetic
representative of P. F. Collier, is in
the city, putting out a new’edition of
Robert Louis Stevensou’s complete
works.
Miss Nettie Brantley and the child
ren of Congressman Brantley will
make their home in Blackshear dur
ing the latter’s attendance on the ex
tra session of congress.
Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Baxter, nt Ma
con, arrived yesterday morning. They
chartered the launch Titania and went
to Cumberland yesterday afternoon.
They will spend some time.
Judge and Mrs. Bolling Whitfield,
with their daughters, Misses Lilian
and Essie Whitfield, will leave on
Wednesday with a party of friends
for Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Tam
pa and Palm Beach, at each of which
places they will spend some time.
City Court.
The city court will meet Tuesday,
JudgeS. C. Atkinson presiding. A
number of important civil and crim
inal cases are to be tried.

IT WAS IMPRESSIVE.
The Laying of the Corner Stone of St.
Athanasius Yesterday.
The corner stone of the rebuilt St.
Athanasius’ church was laid yester
day with impressive services.
Rev. 11. E. Lucas, of St. Mark’s
church, officiated, assisted by Rev. D.
Watson Winn and Rev. J. J. P. Perry.
At 10:30 a good crowd had assem
bled, aud the procession moved from
the St. Athanasius school room to the
trout of the new building, the walls
of which have just begun to rise.
In the corner stone were placed a
number of articles, mcluding several
current coins, copies of the local pa
pers, a paper containing an account
of the inauguration of McKinley and
copies of the periodicals, Living
Church and Southern Churchman;
also one old and one revised prayer
book.
The procession of the clergy, officers
and congregation followed. The
bishop was absent, but his place was
taken by Rev. H. E. Lucas. The pro
cession and a hvmn by the choir end
ed the ceremonial.

The Spanish bark Luz arrived yes
terday from Santa Cruz to load lum
ber from B. I’adrosa.
The schooner Frank W. Howe sailed
yesterday for Boston with 480,000 feet
lumber, valued at $5,500, from the
Southern I’ine Cos.
The American schooner Anna Pen
dleton sailed yesterday for New York
with a cargo of 470,000 feet lumber,
valued at $5,700. from the Yellow Pine
Cos.
The Russian bark Veritas sailed yes
terday with 3,540 barrels rosin, valued
at $10,210, from the Downing Cos.
The Spanish brig Pensatero saled
yesterday with 119,000 feet of lumber,
valued at $1,313, from N. Emanuel.
The Norwegian bark Jotun is ready
to sail with a cargo of rosin from the
Downing company.
UNUSUAL SHIPMENT.
Alcohol From Indiana Going By a
Spanish Bark to Foreign Port.
Inspector H. C. Harrison, of Savan
nah, in the service of the United
States internal revenue, was in the
city yesterday, engaged in the inspec
tion of 200 barrels of alcohol, which
has been brought to this p.ort from
Indiana for shipment.
The shipment is a unique one for
Brunswick. It was contracted for by
Captain Rosando Torras, and will go
by a Spanish bark to a foreign port.
Inspector Harrison is at the Ogle
thorpe. He completed his inspection
of the alcohol yesterday afternoon.
