MYSTERY OF A
WOMAN MISSING.
•
An Invalid for Many Months,
She Disappears From
Her Home.
ALL DAY SEARCH FRUITLESS.
Thought to Have Drowned Hsrself—
Signs of a Strugßle—Tracks On
Canal Bank
All (lay yesterday fifty anxious
searchers covered all the surrounding
woods, scrutinized the water front
and all through the city in an effort to
discover the whereabouts of Mrs. Mat
tie Miller, an invalid,who disappeared
from her home, 713 North Wolf street,
sometime between 1 and 4 o’clock yes
terday morning.
Mrs. Miller is the mother of Mr.
Will Miller, stenographer to Commer
cial Agent George W. Coates, of the
Plant system. She has been confined to
her bed since July, 1896, alHicted with
cancer of the stomach. To alleviate
the agony of her sufferings, Mrs. Mil
ler frequently partook of morphine,
and often expressed an intention of
“going to the river” and ending her
earthly ailments.
On Tuesday night Mr. Miller, the
son, took a fresh bottle of morphine to
the house and placed it on the mantel
of his mother’s room. This morning
the room was without an occupant and
the bottle was empty. The sick woman
had mysteriously disappeared.
The search was at once begun. The
neighbors, learning of the sad occur
rence, turned out to join in the effort
to discover Mrs. Miller’s whereabouts.
Near the house there were signs of
a struggle in the sand of the street.
There was no further evidence of any
particular direction in which the miss
ing woman had gone. Friends scoured
the city and the adjacent country
without result.
Late yesterday afternoon Mr. Will
Miller, the grief-stricken son, search
ing narrowly the banks of the canal
near the gas works found signs in the
dirt, the indications being that some
one had walked down the bank into
the water.
The search was prolonged into last
night, but no other discoveries were
made, and the case is still wrapped in
mystery.
Mr. Will Miller said to a Times man
last night: “I have no doubt that my
mother drowned herself. Every means
has been used to discover her where
abouts, without success.”
The missing woman has another son,
Mr. John Miller, who is one of Colonel
Goodyear’s dynamite force at Aransas
Pass.

NO FAITH CURE
ABOUT STUART’S DYSPEPSIA TAB
LETS.
They Cure Stomach Troubles and Indiiies
tlon Anyway, Whether You Have Faith
In Them or Not.
Mere faith will not digest your food
for you, will not give you an appetite,
will not increase your flesh and
strengthen your nerves and heart, but
Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets will do
these things, because they are com
posed of the elements of digestion,
they contain the juices, acids and pep
tones necessary to the digestion and
assimilation of all wholesome food.
Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets will di
gest food if placed in a jar or
bottle in water heated to 98 degrees,
and they will do it much more effect
ively when taken into the stomach
after meals, whether you have faith
that they will or not.
They invigorate the stomach, make
pure blood and strong nerves, in the
only way that nature can do it, and
that is from plenty of wholesome
food well digested.. It is not what we
eat, but what we digest that does us
good.
Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets are sold
by nearly all druggists at 50 cents for
full sized packages, or by mail from
the Stuart Cos., Marshall, Mich.
