SHOW YOUR COLORS-
Brunswick should liberally respond
to the call of the Knights of Pythias
for assistance in their project for an
encampment of the Uniform Rank in
this city in August. The outlay re
quired is small, and the returns to the
city will I>e large.
The encampment means at least a
thousand visitors, many of whom will
spend the eutire week. It means a
carnival of attractions that will inter
est the people ot this state and neigh
boring states. It means general ben
efit to local trade and a stimulus to
local enterprise.
The attention of the citizens is es
pecially called to the fact that the en
campment is to be held in Brunswick.
It is nut an island event, with mere
ly contingent local benefits. It is a
Brunswick allair, with the resorts as
tributary beneficiaries.
Let every local bnsiuess be repre
sented on the subscription list. The
Times has started the contribution.
No other enterprise can afford to be
backward. Such things build ci’ies.

and raise revenues for die support of the vov
erinnent of the city of Brunswick for the year
ist)7, and to provide tliereby means lor the pay
ment ot tlie public debt of said city: to presci ihe

Section 1, Be it, aud it is hereby ordained by
Hie mayor and council of the city of Brunswick,
in cmiiicil asst-mhleti,. that for ihe purposes
above recited, each and every person, firm or
,-orpoialum, who owns within the corpo'ate
limits ol the city of Brunswick any p operty,
wholher real or personal, subject to taxation,
under the laws of the Btate of Georgia and of
said city, shall make return theieof for taxa
tion for the year l'7, and pay the tax as herft-

Section 2. Be it,and it is hereby in li :e man
ner fur-her ordained, that eaeh and every per
son, firm or corporitiott owning any property,
whether peat or personal, within the (Corporate
limits of the city of Brunswick, inclul.ng house
hold or kitchen furniture, goods, wares, mer
chandise, clocks, jewelry,plate, musical instru
ments, stocks inuny corporation, bond . proiu
is o-y notes and other evidences ol debt.

cluding stc . mho its) and every kind of personal
property whatsoever, except such, whether real
or personal, as may be exenpt from taxation
under the laws of the state of Georgia, shall
make return thereof at the value of said prop
erty, as it existed upon the tlrst day of March,

fore the first day of May, 18H7, and under the

ORDINANCES NO. 52.
An ordinance to provide for the legal sale ami
disposition uf property now ow ned ami hereaf
ter to be acquired by itoe mayor fwd council of
the city of Brunswick, at municipal tax sales.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the mayor and
counoil of the city-of Brunswick, in council
lawfully assembled, and if is hereby so or
dained’by said authority, that immediately
upou the passage and publication of this ordi
nance, and Hereafter annually at the first reg-
alar meeting of said mayor and council in Jan
uary, the mayor of said city shall appoint from

which shall be known as the •‘Committee on
Tux Sale Property,” said committee to he ap
pointed upon the adoption of this ordinance,
shall hold office until the next appointment of
such committee in .January. IMIS; and ibcnaftcr
the term of office of said committee shall he one
year.
It shall he the duty of the said committee to
obtain u full and complete list of all property
now owned by the mayor and council of the city
of Brunswick, and that which may hereafter be
acquired by it at municipal tux sales; and to.
from lime to lime, whenever in the judgment
of-said committee it may be deemed advisable
and best, report to the mayor and council of the
eityrof Brunswick the particular property or
properties it would recommend being sold.
Upon the adoption of such report and recom
mendation of said committee by the mayor and
council of tire city of Brunswick, in council as
sembled, it shall he and is hereby made tire duty
of the mayor of said city to advertise the saiil
property for sale in the ollicial organ of said
city, which advertisement shall he published
once a week for four w eeks previous to such
sale.
Said sale shall lie had in public and at public
outcry before the door of the court house of t lit
county of Glynn, between the legal hours of
sale, and on the first Tuesday in the month.
And at ttie time and place so advertised as
aforesaid, the said mayor (or an auctioneer ap
pointed by him) shall put up and expose tire
said property for sale, and sell the same to ilic
highest and best bidder. And to the purchaser
and purchasers at such sale the mayor pf said
city shall in the name and behalf of "the mayor
and council of the city of Brunswick make,
sign, seal and deliver proper deed and deeds
conveying the said property so sold, which deed
and deeds shall be attested by the clerk of said
mayor and council and shall have affixed Un
seal of said city thereto; and lie witnessed as
provided by law.
Section 2. Be it further ordained lry the au
thority aforesaid llial all ordinances and pans
of ordinances in conflict . with or militating
against tire provisions of tlris ordinance Ire, and
the same are hereby, repealed.
