Your “ads,” your “subacrips” respectfully solic ited. ANNOUNCEMENT. The usual Sunday edition of Tiik Times will be issued on Saturday morning—Christmas day. This ii done for the purpose of al lowing the members of the staff and force of the paper to spend Christmas day in t neir own way. The Times hab taken ro holiday this year, and has not missed a single issue. But, for Christmas day The Times will tak- a rest. The Saturday morn ing paper will, like the usual Sunday issue, consist of eight pages. The Times washes all of its readers a Merry Cbristmas. Tub efforts of Mrs. ltatoliffo to land her actor husband in prison are caus ing much interest in Greater New York. Tiik colored citizens of Savannah are to lio'd a meeting in favor of Drfveaux. Savannah is preparing for an interesting Christmas. Tus paper which gets complimen tary notices of itself has a perfect right to p F int them. The paper that gets none, necessarily can’t. THE CROW AND THE PITCHER. (A Fable for Advertisers.) The late Mr. JR sop, who used to wr.te small, pertinent tracts with large, aggressive morals, for the edi fication alike of the ancient Greeks and the modern school boys* is re sponsible for this anecdote. A certain Crow, who had been haranguing a ward caucus all the evening, had contracted a large, im portunate thirst. As he was looking about to find some means of relieving himself of this same thirst, he discovered a pitcher which contained water. But the pitcher was ve.y large, and the quantity of water it contained was small, and reposed at the very bottom of the pitcher. For anatomical reasons, the crow could not dip bis bill into the water, and drink from the pitcher as it was. Nor was there any use in trying to pour out the water, for the crow could not lilt the pitcher . Besides, he had no cup But be was a wise crow, and aiso persistent, and he immediately re solved himself into a committee of the whole on ways and means and hatched out a solution of the problem. He picked a pebble from many lying around and dropped it into the pit cher. He kept on dropping pebble after pebble into the pitcher, until the water approached near enough to the top for him to drink, and lie slaked his thirst with ease. Moral: It is continuous advertising that pays. If the crow had stopped after one insertion, merely became he could not see any results, he would be thirsty yet.—Charles Austin Bates, Thk “jays” who have again broken into the New York legislature, t hreat en a resurrection of the recently interred anti-cartoon bill. The rascals who fear newspaper publicity aie using the “jays” to advantage.
