BRUNSWICK OA. SUNDAY MORNING. JANUARY 21 1900
IN AN IDLE YEIN.

There were two certain men who

BIG FIGHTING
MAY NOW BE ON
So Writes The London Lead

Sir Okar.'es Warren’s Advance Sit w Put
Progressing—Tha Position of British
Forest Is Net An Easy Oae.
London, Jan. JO.—“There is every
indioatien that a big fight for the
western roads (leading to Ladysmith)
will taks place today,” writes the
London Leader’s military oritio in the
issue of today, “though it may have
begun yesterday. All the artillery of
Generals Warren and Hildyard was
not aoross the drifts yesterday morn
ing and tbe ammunition trains and
most of the heavier guns were proba
bly then still soutb of the Tug* 1 1.
These indications, as well as General
Bullar’a longer march, point to tbe se
rious effort being made today.”
The war oritio of tbe London Post
says:
“Sir Charles Warren's intention is
to turn tbe right flank of tbe Boers,
presumably those facing G-neral Lyt
tieton, but whether he propose! to at
tack tbat flank, as be would by de
scending tbe valley of Blaaubank
Spruit, or marob right round it by
tbe Valley of Sand aiver, can hardly
yet to determined. The fighting
when it ootqea, may be expected to be
jekvy and continuous and tbe losses
may be severe. Far from their base
at Cbievely, with the river behind
them, and with tbe the enemy in large
numbers between them and Lady
smith, the position of the British
force is not an easy one.”
