SUNDAY THOUGHTS.
From “Tbs Outlook.' 1
It is a sign of moral health when a
man does not readily forget bis sins
and errors. Repentanoe for evil-do
ing or that intellectual slovenliness
which leads us into so many blunders
la not to be measured accurately by
the depth or intensity of the penften-
tial feeling; but it it it eafe to say that
he who easily forgets bis offenses, is
not likely speedily or effectively to
make reparation to himself or to oth
ers. With most sensitive natures the
difficulty lies In another direction; it
is a great deal easier for tueb nature*
to dwell upon their offeoees, and hu
miliate themselves in (he dust In re
membrance of them, than to put these
offense* In tbe background, and move
resolutely forward. To soma minds it
seems almost impossible thet tbe Di
vine juatioe can overlook human law
breaking. This is, however -* -•**' of
stbsliu, mlthnuah r a **
kind; it involve* a doubt ofrboTOve of
God; ainee the supreme manifestation
of that iove is the forgiveness of aina
as is expressed in the life and death of
Christ. It would seem to bs Impossi-
Ms even for Deity to go farther in
tusking known to man (be certainty of
the eramre of an evil record when
suob a record has excited in the man
who has made it a deep sense of unwor
tbineas, and a genuine feeling of pen*
itenoe. There is perhaps no floor
fruit of a real faith in Uod, than the
ability, after repentance, to forget
what lies behind, and to press forward
to possess what liea before. Anew
lit* is always open to the man or wo
man who believes however the past
may have been sold for small returns
or forfeited by unfaithfulness, the fu
ture is a fresh possession whioh may
be held upon the highest terms. It
does not follow that beoause a man
has made unfortunate investments
With one fortune it is inevitable that
he should go on to lose other fortunes.
Many a man learns by losses how to
conserve and increase gains. If a man
has wasted on* moral fortune he has
blessed eertainty, that with repent-
Booe, and change of life, there is an
Iber at bis disposal; and tbe lssson of
taster can always be turned to ac
int in anew aelfoontrol, a steadier
Jn, and a ttnsr insight. If there were

Yonder beyond tbe Atlantic, on tbe

of tbe “Invalides” hypnotizes tbe vis

spot and finds one of the most mtgnif

old guard. The Confederacy’s ohief
tain lost. Had he won bis old guard
would have dwelled in marble hall*
tbe equal of Bonaparte’s, if it had not
sxoelled them. Fate willed other
wise; tbe Confederate “yet” has no
home of marble and granite with
dome of gold, but he has, henceforth,
what is far better—the mvdest homes
of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Tbe entertainment opened with a
