A while prisoner broke away from
Oflicer Soarlett Sunday night, and
shot at him while he ran. Officer Scar
lett pursued the man and returned his
fire, but he escaped.

laid by the Masons of Woodbine lodge,

Brunswlok chapter of the order of the
Eastern Star. The data haa been de
oided upon for May 23, one whiob will
long be remembered by all who at

on the evenings of May 22 and 23 in
the Grand opera bouse, promise to be
one of the beat attractions tbat baa ev
er appeared before tbe footlights. The
boys are greatly interested in having
an up to-date performance, and are
doing everything possible toward that
end. The M .rime band will be on
the stage with them, and there will
be handsome new costumes for all.

members are urgently requested to be
present.
Mr. Warren Howard has returned
to Atlanta, after several pleasant days
with friends in Brunswick.

The entertainment, to be given 1 y

of Friday next promises to be one of

tbe feature will be a prize egg hunt
for the children, and eggs of all colors
will be bidden from one end of the
park to tbe other, the golden eggs
containing prize tickets, whiob will
entitle the finders to some of the fol
lowing prizes; A oake donated by tlis
Hoodenpyle bakery, a oake donated by
the Krauts bakery, teu soda water
tickets donated by Brown’s drugstore,
ten sods water tioketa donated by
Butts’ drug store, a box of fine candy
donated by Dedusi, the candy man.
There will also be a bean bag gamo,
tne winner receiving a pretty prize.
In the. evening there will be amuse
ment for grown folks, the Brunswick
Riflemen attending in a body and giv
en exhibition drill, after which the
Marine band will give one of its
sweetest open air conceit'.
Among the young ladies who have
been asked to assist with ttie toe cream,
strawberries and oake, of which there

York pier readied here. Fortunately

Judge Crovalt Questioned the Jurisdiction
of Judge Sparks.
There was a breezy time for awhile
in the Oity oourt yesterday over a
question raised by Judge Crovatt as to
the jurisdiction Judge Sparks hail in
assigning him certain oases that were
witliout counsel.

jurisdiction, and instructed Sheriff
