TO THE VOTERS OF GLYNN COUNTY
Press Committee of the Gwfl Govern
ment Cli Addresses i Letter.
We desire to ask the good people of
Brunswick and Glynn county a few
plain, business-like questions.
When the Good Government people
successfully compoted tor the oonnty
ottloes in 1898 they did so upon a clear
ly defined platform, giving reasons
why there should be a change in the
management of your affairs. We
showed bow cilices had been conduct
ed for private gain instead of for the
public good, and how extravagance
existed everywhere. Since taking
charge we have proved every asser
tion then made, and oarried out our
promises by tilling the offices in the
interest of the people.
Can anyone fail to see the difference,
nn the clerk’s office under Harry du
Bignon and what it was so long under
his predecessor*? Go to the court
house and see the receipt for $556 paid
Beach tor transcribing records. Find
out how rouoh money - was collected
for recording papers in civil cases and
not a lice of the work done.
Has anyone affidij-otion tol.ee as
treasurer, who willingly gave up $750
commissions, which be oould have de
trended, because he believed it was
not right for hire to receive pay ex
cept for taxes received and paid out?
What good citizen of Glynn would not
rather he represented by Willis Sym
ons than Harry Dunwody? Dunwody
announced altir his failure to defeat
the county commissioners’ hill before
the senate that be would come back in
two years and repeal that law. If he
deniee4hat statement evidence will be
furnished that he made it.
Thee people now con asking to he
'pat'twWt itniWfte, Why rmheJ gif.e
one reason for a change? None ex
cept that they want the ctlioss; in
faot, have held and fattened on them
ao long they don’t know how to get
along without them.
Why should you put these men haok
iu office? Are you tired of rightly
conducted offices? Do you want the
convicts put hack on private property
or kept on the public roads, drainage
and, other public work?
They have only good thing* to say
of the present commissioners, and
bars put no one out against thorn.
Why? They simply hope to repeal
the liw providing for the election of
the commissioners by the people,
again eleot them by the grand jury
and have their own dear little ring all
to theniselveß so they can afford to say
"the people be damned.’’
(Jan you afford to trust the man who
betrayed you In 1894? You remember
when Ounwody was put in as mayor
in 1891, it was strictly as
candidate. You recall
against the ring and his promises of
charges, and in three months a
stronger and worse ring was formed
than ever existed. 'The ring bosa be
came, by graoe of bis majesty, Mayor
Dunwody, as great a power as ever.
lio you want to return to that con
dition of affairs? Ail you have to do
is to vote for the ring candidates and
you will have it very preimp'ly after
•fan. 1, 1901.
The ring candidates have not even
disguised themselves. It ia the siine
old crowd. They’ll promise you any
thing to get your vote. Give them
the reins if you want to be ridden to
death will) mismanagement of your
public affairs and high faxes. For in
stance, a miliion-dollar increase in
the aseessempnt of oily property for
1900 over 1899, and an increase of one
firth in your tsx rate. At this rate,
how long will it take to crush poor old
Brunswick out nf existence ?
But we know that a majority of the
voters of Glynn have determined that
they will never again enfiuattheir
county affairs to this gaeg. U
SCHOOL TEACHERS

A Deserved Tribute Paid Them by
the Board of Education
Yesterday
SUPT. ORR SERVES UNTIL OCT. 1902
He Has Made a Wondeful Success in
Administering the School Affairs, and
His Retention Is Well Merited.
Asa comp'imeut to their worth and
general efficiency, the Glynn county
Board of Education yesterday re

Asa speoial mark of esteem for the
excetlenoe with which the entire school

the board re-elected him, or rather
ratified a previous election of him as

years, thus making his term expire
October Ist, 1902 This was an un
usual proceedure on the part of the
board, and never before has such action
been taken, due to various oaußes; but
since the induction of Supt. Orr in
otlloe be has m*do such a complete
success in administering the affairs of
Glynn’s schools, that the board re
eleoted him for a three years’ term at
one time, in order that he might have
before him a long enough certainty of
position to enable him to oarry out
and perfect yvork he has now under
way and in contemplation for the still
further betterment of the schools.
The Board of Eduoattoh of Glynn is
'how', composed i' President, Edwin
Brolnton; niembl IV. E. Kay, S. C.
Atkinson, D. D. J inson, Alex. Liv

Gould. They are at patriotic oitizens,
and have served the county faithfully.
Under their adminietrution the schools
have been brought dowo to a cash ba
sis for doing business on, and now all
tbe teachers get their money promptly
at the end of each month, something
they did not do for some years.
Under the guidanae of tbe board, tbe
schools will dose’ the year with our
rent expenses ail paid and start the
next term with a cash balance to ope
rate on. /
The news of the re-eleotion of Supt.
Orr and all the teachers will be re
ceived with much pleasure by the peo
ple of Glynn, and the fact that Supt.
Orr, by his long term of office, will
now be able to carry out some of his

much pleasure.
