Judge Atkinson as a Delegate

convention which convenes in Kaneas
City July 4. Judge Atkinion and So

pants and Received Liberal Applause.
Notes of the Entertainment.
The Exc'lslor Literary Society of
the Glynn High School, under the able
management of Mrs. M. L. Talker,
principal, gave a charming entertain
ment at the Grand last night. The
bouse was patked, and enthusiastically
applauded the efforts of their enter
tainers.
The performance opened with an
operetta, “TheGypay Girl,”in wbioh
Misses Janie Symons, Beulah Ellen
wood and Marie Devoe took the lead
ing parte, supported by a battalion if
pretty young maiden’, attired in the
gaudy multi-oolored dress and showy
jewelry, worn by Gipsy girls.
The dancing and singing, to the ao
oompanimeot of tambos, elicited warm
plaudits.
Miss Lydie Jeffers’ reoitation of
“Lowrsane," tbe Marble Dream, was
well reoeived.
A [short play, strategy, proved
amusing. Miss Reulab Ellen wood oap
turing tbe honors.
A Virginia Mummy, a fire", was
next produced by tbe young comedi
ans. Richard Everett, as “Ginger
Blue,” did very well in his negro
character.

A DELIGHTFUL SOCIAL EVENT.
Col. and Mrs. Hemphill Entertain the
Georgia Sponsors and Maids of Honor.
The Louisville Courier-Journal says :
“The reception given yesterday at

A. Hemphill was one of the features
of the reunion. Tbe reoeption was
given to tbe sponsors Jand maids of
honor from Georgia and to Camp U.
C.V.,No. 159, from Atlanta. The
main parlor was tilled with delightful
guests.

Yesterday Sforetary F. McC. Brown
placed a great streamer aoross New
castle street from hm store to the Na
tional bank oorner telling where the
headquarters of the fair can be foud,
and it attracted much attention.
The Parques, world-famous liioye
iiats, have been engaged and will ar
rive next week to get everything in
readiness for their daily performances
at tbe grounds. An immense salary
has been given them, and they are
worth double the prioe of admission
alone, to say nothing of the many oth
er attractions engaged.
Tbe fair association will give to tbe
floral parade committee a Igjeral prize
to be awarded the handsomest team
In the parade, and this will slimu’ate
tbe people to get up something extra
nice for the carniyn) parade. 1 1 is ex
pected that the merchants will offer
additional Inducements in tbe way of
handsome prizes, and the floral dis
play will certainly be a great feature
of the fair.

Baseball will alee be a strong feat
ure, and new equipments for tbe play
ers ; are beginning to arrive. The
Brunswfok team la practicing dally,
and will hold their own well with tbe
teams that oome from other places.
Tbe amusement committee is hard
at work and arranging for some spe
cial attractions that will prove win
uera in drawing the crowds. They are

to mention.

Capt. and Mrs. B. A. White returned
last night from North Carolina, where
Cipt. White has been for the purpose
of buying a steamboat to go on the
Satilla river run. Capt. White will
oertainly make a suooess with his new
boat, as the people along the line can
not do vt ithout him. He has served
them long and well.

Mr. K. J. Banks, of Tbe Times’ foroe,
yesterday received a telegram from
Forsyth telliDg him of the dangerous
illness of bis little girl, who was taken
there eoaae days ago in hopes of bene
fiting her health. Mr. Banks left on
tha night train to join his lfamily,
and his friends and co-workers on The
Times earnestly hope that there will
be a decided and continued ohange for
the better before be returns.
