Ladies Should Take the Matter in Hand
and Request the Merchants to Agree

For the benettt of the clerks and
merchants of Bruuswiok, The Times
has start)d a petition for tbe closing
of all business bouses, with theexcep
tion of saloons and drug stores, at six
o’clock every afternoon, Saturday ex
cepted, from June -15th to Sept, 15 b.
Tbe Timer thinks that thia will lie
benihoial to all, and it is a rule which
is being observed in moat ail tbe towns
and cities in O O'gia.
If all the merchants will agree to
close at six, tbe peo|lr who have
trading to do will make it a rule to do
their shopping before that hour, aud
on Saturday the stores will be kept
open for the work ng olaas.
A petition was circulated yesterday

Work on Transport.
New York, June 7.-~An Erie basin
shipbuilding firm has begun work on
the transport Kilpatriok, whose recon
struction will cost $408,000. The Kil
patrick ia intended to ply betwsen San
Franoisoo and the Philippines. She
will beentirely remodeled, her engines
will be overhauled, and large steel
daokhouaes wiil be built on the spar
deok.

The Congreesiooal Nominating con
vention for the Eleven! Uoorgia dis
trict was called to order in Wayoroea
by Col. J. C. Chairman of
tbe Executive Committee, at half past
ten o’olock, and Mr R M Oneley, of
Vaidoeta, woa chosen permanent ebair
uiae of the convention. Upon taking
the clulr, Mr Oueley made a short
though thoroughly Democratic ad
dress, which received the applause and
the approval or all presem.
Mr \V T Dickerson wae chosen per
rnanent secretary of the convention.

lion. W. O. Brantley, our representa
tive in Congress, and we take great
pleasure in commending him as the
nominee of the Democratic party to
the people of this District for re-elec
tion. and to further say, that in him
we have a true representative of the
people. One who is broad and libera)

every sence well equipped to serve this
people in the Halls of Congress.
