A Ball Game.
Yesterday afternoon op tbe grounds
of the Southeastern Fair Association,
a mstob game of ball was played by a
picked leam chosen by Mr. Henry
riirsch and one chosen by Mr. Ed
Miller. Th ere seemed to be some me*

There will be a special meeting of
St. Mark’s Guild at the Parish House
Friday night at 8 o,clock. All mem

interesting game, as both sides will

Brunswick tram, while Messrs. Wlk

New York. June 14.—Rev. Dr. Ar
thur J. Brown, secretary of the Pres
byterian board dl foreign missions,
lias just received nine long letters
from missionaries in the Shan Tung
and Pekin missions . Only two make
any referenoe to the Boxers. The
first of these is from Rev. V. F. Partob,
of Chinan Fu, dated April 28th, and
reads as follows:
‘•We have had no serious anxiety re
garding th- Big Knife sooiety since
tbe present governor, Yuan Sbikai,
came. He Is probably the best gen
eral in China, and is managing the
disaffected with a strong hand. Re
cently a force of IS of bis trooper*
met S3 maloonteuts about 50 miles
here and killed 21 and wounded a
number more, with soarcely any inju
ries to themselves.”
The seoond letter is from Rev. C. 11,
Fenn, of Pekin, dated Msy 2od and
read*:

at the residence of Mr*. Bolling Whit
field yesterday evening, and the chair
man, Mr*. Edwin Brobston, presided.
A splendid report was given of all '
work being done for this beautiful de
partment of Fair, and tbe ladies
have been go successful that a magnifl
cent display will be the result.
All the ladies of tbe committee have
oanvamed the town, bat if there are
any having potted plants, ferns, hang-
ing baskets, etc., which they are de
