A SPLENDID PLAY.
As the “Sorrows of Sa'an” company, which comes to the Grand on Monday,
Oetober 1, is a stranger here, the following clipping from the Romo Tribune
will give some idea of the play and the merits ot the company:
“Manager Nevjn was very fortunate in securing an attraction of such merit
as the ‘Sorrows of Satan’ to open the season at the opera house.
“The audience was fair but nothing like the play deserved. Corelli’s peculiar
treatment of the devil In her novel has been strongly brought out in the dramiti
zation, and the company presenting it last night was superb.
“Mr. Edward R. Mawson assumed the role of Prince Lucia liymanez (Satan)
and hii characterization was finished and artistic in the extreme. He is an actor
of superior merits, and his interpretation was all that the most critical could de
sire. Mr. Seymour gave an excellent presentation of Goeffrey Tempest, and Miss
Dodd made a perfect Lady Sybye.
" 1 he third act in particular was magnificent, and all the powers of the lead
ing characters were fully brought out. The stage settings wero beautiful.'’
“Prices are 25, 50, 75 and #l.
THINGS IN GENERAL.
News Notes of--Genera! Interest to
All.
“I tell you,” said the street corner
orator, “we have got to have honest
men in a community to bo successful;
we must send all wrong-doers to the
penitentiary, make the non-payment of
honest debts a crime.” “Wait a min
ute,” said the man with the slouch hat
on, “how about that rent you owe me,
and to boat mo out of it you took the
homestead,” The meeting adjourned.

It is all very well to tell your girl you
are poor, but will make sacrifices for "her
sake; and It sounds so sweet of her to
tell you she will liye on bread and wai
ter. This is all Very nice. The weddjpg,
too, was quite a pretty affair. You
loofcd handsome In that black tailor
made suit, and the bride was lovely in
the beautiful wedding gown. It passed
off so "nicey, nicey.”
All is bliss until the garments papa
bought are out of date.
That bread and water gag did not
work either, and those self sacrifices
were never made. She Is with her mama
and Charlie Is pulling the old man's
leg.
The Woodward-Warren company was
all right—for the price. Our theatre
goers should not expect to see first class
performances for thirty cents. Now
when a dollar attraction comes, if it is
bad there is some room for kicking. You
cannot bny a dollar hat for thirty cents,
and you cannot set a dollar show for
less than one hundred cents
