New York.—At a meeting of the New York board of health recently there was an interesting discussion on the spread of tuberculosis. In discuss ing tbe question Commissioner Cosby said there were over 40,000 cases of consumption in this oity during the past year. One of our moat prominent and auccessful doctors who has made a speoial study of tuberculosis and pulmonary dia-aaes remarked when he read the health board’s report; “The spread of consumption, that dreaded of all diseases, is principally due to people deceiving themselves. They wont admit that when started as a sight cough has taken deep root in the lungs, and before they know it tbe consumption germ has pregnated the lungs and is consuming them slowly but surely.” He further said, “There need be no fear of the spread of consumption if every family kept a bottle of Duffy’s Pure Malt Whiskey iu the house and admin istered it to any member of the fam ily at tbe approach of a oold or cough As soon as you feel the first symp toms take a teaspoonfui in a glass of water and continue to do so every two hours until ail signs of tbe cough or ‘cold have disappeared.” Duffy s Pure Malt Whiskey not only cures tbe cough and heals tbe lungs, but it stimulates the blood to healthy aotion. It ib the greatest germ kilter and oura tive ’WWWPWscience. Over seven thousand doctors prescribe and recom mend It for grip, consumption, bron chitis and all diseases of ths throat and lungs on account of its absolute purity and excellence. Dr. Willard H, Morse, American director of the Bueau of Majeria Medjoa, says: “Duffy’s l'ure M alt is the only reiiable and absolutely sure rem edy for pneumonia and consumption. Ordinary whiskey is as useless as ft ta dangerous for the same diseases. Duffy’e Pure Malt Whiskey increases the elimination of carbonic dioxide £ii(l aids nature iu throwing off the coutumption poison. The common fusel-oil whiskey has no such office or privilege.” WEDDING PRESENTS. Big cut In all lines of silverwares fc r the next few dayß. To be ’sold at auc tual cash. A. I re gard the use of alum as highly injurious*” Dr. Alonzo Clark: “ A substance (alum ) which can derange the stomach should not be tolerated in baking powder.” Prof. W. G. Tucker, New York State Chemist: “I believe it (alum) to be decidedly j Injurious when used as a constituent of food articles.” Prof. S. W. Johnson, Yale College: "I regard their (alum and soluble alumina salts) introduction into baking powders as most dan gerous to health.” In view.of such testimony as this, every care must be exercised by the housewife to exclude the over and over condemned cheap, alum baking powders from the food.
