Th# fabric of the season is velvet, says an exchange, not a'one panne, with which we were all but snrleited last winter, but fancy variations of velvet arc coming conspicuously to the front, and the regulation old-time short-nap ped velvet is again reinstated and weK corned with overwhelming enthusiasm. Certainly there Is no more beautiful material for cold weather, its rich, warm lustre, deep, mysterious shadows and fascinating lights give it a variety and charm that no other material caft boast; there is, too, an alluring look of luxur ious comfort about its soft, furry sur face that makes it irresistible indcod to ibe feminine heart. Velyet, then, in all its form, bro cades, uncut velvets, plusbesand pannes are to appear on everything. Not only are these costly fabrics to be lavishly used as trimming, and in com bination with cloths and other mate rials, but for ceremonious occasions, such as calling, reception end afternoon toilettes, it is the main article. Coals and hats also are to be worn entirely of velvet- though for coats velvet is to be reserved strictly for dress, and not to be worn for the street or in combination with shopping or walking skirts. There is a cruel disregard for the fru gal minded woman this season, as the fashions teem even more extravagant than those of the spi ing and summer Even most everyday suits of cheviot and cloth show expensive and all too perishable trimmings" cfl velvet, aiid panne. The tunic is used upon tailor gowns and costumes of a rather dressy order. It I frequently appears over an underskirt of a similar shade of velvet or silk, and al ways on a gown which is long and lian a slight train. Some models show tbo tunic quite short in the front, in the Ayio of a tables, rally i tu ck and front, and iy draped at pse side. J Many of these tunics are cut in one FINE FURNITURE.
