Officers and directors of the South casters Fair Association will meet to morrow for the purpose of deciding whether or not to give the gala week tselebralion in connection with the com ing race meet, or we might say the pro posed race meet, because without one the other would not be succossiul. It is admitted that the last fair was given at the wrong reason and that it was not a financial success because of the many restrictions thrown around the management, but now w 6 are glad to say the way is clear in these two re spects. November is the proper time. Fairs, carnivals, etc,, will then be held in all parts of Georgia, and attractions are available at a very small outlay. The city council recently pass.d a res olution removing all restrictions, and now the way is clear for a grand time and a successful gala week. The Timks-Cai.i. urges the fair man agement to have the celebration if, in their judgmtn', it can be made success ful; if they think not, abandon the Uea, because it is betier to lot it pass than make a failure. We are free to admit that wo think it would be a great success, hat we will say *rist here that our knowledge of such matters is limited.’ Xnyway, let the qudetion he settled at tomorrow’s meet ing. If we are going to have it, now ( is the time to begin work; if not, let us atop talking about it. Candida e Maraton, who is running againat Congressman Brantley in this district, will be liketHam's parrot after the returns come in—“where the devil were you when the cyclone struck us?' remarks the Valdosta Times. SUNDAY THOUGHTS. William Mouatforvl. A good Old age is a beautiful eight, aud them is nothtfig earthy that la as coble. A ship is a tine ibjeoi, when cornea tuto'poet with all its sails seW Mid quite safely, 'rum a long voyage Many thousand miles has wl h | the t-uu tor guidance, andflKa Tori a path, and the wind for its speed. What might have been its grave, a thousand fathoms deep, has j lelded it a ready way; and winds that might have been its wreck, have been its service. It bus come from another meridian than ourt; it haseume through night and day; it has come by reefs and banks, that have been avoided, and past rocks that have been watched for. Not a plank h3 been started, nor oue timber in it proved rotten. And now it comes like an answer to the pray ers of many bearis—a delight to the owner, a Joy to many a sailor’s family, and a pleasure to all ashore that see it. It has been steered oyer the ocean piloted through dangers, and now' it is safe. But more interesting still than tlia Is a go-d life; as it approaches Ls three score ytais and ten. It began I in the century before the present; it' has lasted on through storms and out- j shine; it has been guarded against j many a rock, on which shipwreck of a good conscience might have been made. On the course Jit baa taken, then has been the influence of Providence, and it has been guided by Chrtit, that day star from on high. Yes, old age l* even a nobler sight than a ship com pleting a long voyage. On a summer ev.nirg the setting sun is grand fo look at. In hia morning beams the birds awoke and sang, men rose for their work .and the world grew light. In bis midday heat, fields grew yellow er, and Iruits were ripened, and in his light at setting, all tilings seem to grow harmonious But what is a'l this to the sight of a good life, in those years that go down to the grave? In the early days of it, old events have their happening; with the lighyif it, many a house bBB been brightened, and under the good influ ence of it, souls have grown better, some of Whom are now on high. And then the closing period of such bow almost awful li, the beauty of it! From his setiog, the sun witi rise again tomorrow; and he will shine on men and their work, and on th'.Ldreipß ch ldren and their labors. But once finished, even a good life has no re newal in this worlds * It-will begin again, ut ll jjyil be a under new heavens. -X Far more sublime, than any . other esrtbly sight, is the 0 and age of a jud kind and useful Christ. sd ills. , DEDICATION SERVICES. THE BRUNSWICK TIMES-CALL, OCTOBER 7, 1900. PITY AND BEAUTY The most beautiful thing, in the world, is the baby, all dimples and joy. The most pitiful thing is that same baby, thin and in pain. The dimples and joy have gone, and left hollows and fear. It is fat that is gone; gone with it, comfort and color and curve; all but pity and love. The little one gets no fat from her food: has had none for weeks: she is living on what she had stored in that plump little body of hers. She is starving for fat; it Is death; be quick 1 Scott’s emulsion of cod-liver oil is the fat she can take. It will save her. We'll tend you > Hide la try If you lilts.
