Since the disastrous storm of a few years ago the oyster canning business in this oily has been at a standstill. The mammoth plant of the Aiken can nlngocmpany was badly damaged in thisstorm, the factory was about de stroyed and much of the machinery greatly injured, but the company still held a lease on not Ires tban a thou sand oyster beds and it is said that they contemplated entering the can ning business again. Under the able management of Mr. Frank D. Aiken, the faofory did very well, better, in Hian/it had done before, and tn<fce- -..T there. jf j Inn. and one wihg ness for everything there is in it, Mr. J. W. Tatum, a prominent natal store man, has purchased all the atook of the Aiken Canning Company, and within the next few days workmen will be put to work rebuilding the factory and house*. The machinery which is not too badly damaged will be overhauled, while other line and modern machines will be ordered. Mr. Tatum expects to bate the fac tory running in full blast within the next sixty days. With the purchase of the Aiken oast ningCompany, Mr. Tatum secures the leases on not less tban one thousand beds, or, it might bo said, be now con trols tbe oysiery industry of this sta tion. Besides the canning of oysters Mr. Tatum will can fruit, fish and vege tables.
