Turner has Issued a summary of the statement ct the condition of the state hanks of •Georgia at tha close of bnslneas Sup* tember 3, 1899, and September 5, 1900, which tells or the remarkable oondl tion of all the banks. One of the most Important it. mg is i the fact that not a bank has failed n the state this year. "By the comparison of the summary of 1890 and 1900, it will be seen that there has been an increase In loans of •2,305,000: deposits, $1,854 000; sur plus and net profits, 9350,000, and a tics crease in oapltal ol $305,000. .The wrhdriiWal of the Eowry Bank ing Comp uy. the Capl a. The difference In the reduction of capital as shown by tbejfirst statement and the second is caused by the fact that there have been fifteen new banks oifcanlaed and now in operation. If the statements ol tbe banks with drawn from the supervision of this de partment were l ,lncluded In this sum mary (using the statement cf there would be an approximate increase of capital (379,000, surplus and net profits (590,000, loans $1,639,000 and deposits $2,850,000. In all he stole conelderaWy more than the total capital and surplus of the bank. . And this man with the "wonderful hdjjHHf figures,” the almost criminal opportunity to steal, surrounded by temptation, was paid a salary of fifteen dollars a week.
