Local military men are very much worried over the newß that Gov. Can dler recommended to ine legislature that the appropriation for the state mlli'ary be not increased. The appropriation for the state troops is only #20,000 and this is claimed to be 100 small. Governor Candler has stated that he thought the appropriation was enough for the troops. ThU will be a disap pointment to some of the military men in this city, who wore counting on the governor’s asking for a larger appro priation . The governor has also stated that he wanted no more state encampments as they tended to demoralize the militia, and that there was alwrys a prejudice against the troopi whero there war encampments. The governor is in favor of regi mental encampments, but at those en campments tbs members of the regi ment have to bear the expense. The State has never been appreciated, ar and it is hoped that the legislature will see lit to differ witli Governor Candler, and make such an appropriation as will enable the mili tary to have the State encampments, and thus in a measure show that the services of the boys, who are ever ready to answer duty’s oai*. are provided for in a fitting way. These annual encampments to which the governor is opposed, Is one of the features of military life. They give the military a better chance to Itafiti camp life, and it makes better soldiers of tbem.
