Condon. l>ec. 12.—A lingular com

army, who had spent
India. Ue aaid that the/troopors en
gaged in running him, to earth were
ready to cheer for him and to take bl
on their shoulder* and carry'him in
triumph to the neartat camp as the
of the war in South Africa,
Further news respecting DeWet. is
cagaTly awaited. A rnmor, which,how
ever, at present lacks continuation, was
current last night that severe fighting
bad taken place between hU forces and
those of Fcneral Knox.
Lord Kitchener has already fulfilled
the forecasts of experts in one respect —
ha has adopted a laconic stylo in his
bulletins, fi t dispatches have declin
ed in ooropaa* day by day since he as
sumed the chief command.
The experts are pleased with this
economy of words. They asse, ted that
Lord Roberts’ unconsciously dignified
guerilla warfare by devoting a long
bulletin to it daily, and that Lori
Kitchener wl1! minimize the Boer ope
rations by allowing ali the petty inci
dents to pass without observation.
Oermvuy has given one, more proof
of hor resolve to maintain friendly re
lations with Engsaud. It is generally
agreed that the imperial chancellor’s
speech in the reichstag must Apose
once for all of any hopes aof European
intervention which Mr. Kruger and
his advisers might haye entertained.

of employees were at put to work

Heretofore, this law has been gross
