of drawing a jury in the oese of (be

This will take the plaoe of tbe court

8.30 a. m. will it be necessary for jurors,
witnesses and others intereated in tbt
case to be preeenl.
One hundred and twenty names were
drawn from the box. The etate baa

the defendant must go down for cause

THE BRUNSWICK BOARD OF TRADE HAS
NOW TAKEN THE MATTER IN
HAND.-THEIR OFFER.
Fot a lorg time Brunswickiane have
fjlt the neceseily of a hotel on St.
Simon Island fund now the Board of
Trade baa began active steps to seoure
one. Regarding tbe movement Mr
Jake Rotbolz, as chairman of Ibe
committee, made tbe following sta'e
ment: A
A the Board of Trade
will Bub& ' to the people of this city
and county tbe following facts :
First. A notel on St. Simon Island
oommodloua size and properly equipped
for tbe oare and aooommodauon of sum
mer visitors would be of great benefit
to tbe people of this city, both as an
advertisement and ns a aouroe of rev
enue on account of the throng of
strangers that would constantly pass
through this place.
Second. We have the assurance of
the Southern Railroad that should we
provide a oomforUble hotel by tbe be
ginning of next season they will un
dertf kj tc advertise it and will make a
passenger rats which will insure its
being filled with people. In addition
to this we will have the cc-operation
of tbe B. & B, road that will probably
be far extended into a sec.ion wblob
ought to br:a ;us lots of people nex<
summer.
Third. We have tbe assurance of
reliable parties that they will oon
struct and rquip a modern up-to-dati
hotel, provided a sufficient bonus is of
fered them .
Fourth. It is our purpose to ascer
tain if our people feel sufficient inter
est in this matter to donate live tbou
sand ($5000) dollars or more to secure
suoh an enterprise, and to that eed we
will open subscription liars on Monday
September 30 h, and give every one an
oporlunity to subsoribe.

At the invitation of Mr, A. V. Wood,
president of the Board of Education,
tbe teaobers of Brunswick’s public
schools were entertained informally
last night ar his r esidecca and there
met Snpt. Ballard and Prinoipal Mann,
of the Grammir school for tbe first
time.
Among those presort were Misses
Lula Colesberry, Constanoe Butts,
Annie O’Connor, Ruwena Griffin, Alice
Wrench, May Blngbam, Bettie Alex
ander, Kita McKinnon, Franoes Hop
kins, and Miss Mary McCullough, who
will assist Miss Darning, in tbe pri
mary grade, Mr. J. W. Griffith, prin
cipal of tbe High sohool and Mr.
ManD,
The eveuing was most pleasantly
spent and acquaintances thns formed
give promise of muoh benefit to the
sohool system.
During tbe vacation period Mr
Gr.filth has been attending tbe leotore
course at the Uolverßity of Cbieago,
and Miss Colesberry has been attend
ing Normal class at Montaagle, Tenu.,
while others of the teaohers have been
pursuing studies at various places.
Toe sohools open tomorrow morning
and attendance this yearZpromlsses to
be vary good. Owing to tbe ohangs in
superintendents the custom heretofore
followed of registering new pupils the
week proceeding opening day was not
observed and all new pnpilswill there
fore appear at 8:30 o’clock at the school
bouses for the purpose of registering
and being assigned to their proper
grades. I’uplls who were in the sobools

metiou card? as has been the custom
heretofore,
The first day's session will probably
be occupied in assigning pupils to
grades, Issuing book lists and getting
everything In readiness for the actual
school work of the term.
Superintendent Ballard has ss<ur
ances of the heartiest co-operation of
Boys Outfits.

off, or here at home to school, in either event
you must start him right —new suit, new shoes,
underwear —anything he needs to wear. Let
him feel that he is dressed properly and see

won the first race of the series from
