BUSINESS MEN’S TICKET
For Aldermen:
W. B. COOK.
M. KAISER.
To the Voters of Brunswick:
Below we publisn aa address to the
peace loving voters at Brunswick and
we unhesitatingly endorse the senti
ments contained therein as wall as the
gentlemen in the interest af whosa
aandidacy it is written, viz; Messrs.
A. L, Franklin, M. Kaiser, W. B.
Cook and W. 8. Taylor,
The business interests of Brunswisk
are the most vital to tbe community, for
with good business interests represent*
ed in our city government good moral
interests are certain to be mainta ned.
The 'a ; ms for the candidacy of the
gentlemen whom we see fit te endorse
and commend to the voters of Bruns -
wick are admirably and suoointly set
forth in the address which we publish
below and this address should be care
fully read by every voter who bae tbe
beet Interests of Brunswick at heart.
The gentlemen named, each, either own
or represent property interests here
which in itself alone would make them
careful to administer public affairs for
the good of all, but in addition to this
they are men of high business integrity,
sucoeisful in their own affaire and
fully capable of handling tbe municipal
reins of government in a manner satis,
factory to evjry per.'oa in this com
munity.
We heartily bevpaik for the ticket
we name the votes of every man who
is registered for tLe ooming eleotioa on
Tuesday next.
The committee appointed by Chair
man W.E. Kay at tbe citizens mass
meeting held at tbe city hall in Ootoher
have issued the following address:
To the Voters of Brunswick:
Our city is now at a period in its
history when faotional strife is pecu.
liarly, undesirable, and when harmon
ious action ou tbe part of its oitizens
is essentially important. We arc to
day on the threshold of an era of un
precedented prosperity, and our future
bids fair to oouipenßate for m&cy of ths
misfortunes of former years.
Confirmed in tbe belief that pros
perity and political strife rarely, if
ever, take op their abode in the same
municipality; and more strongly con
firmed in the belief that the business
men of Brunswick want nothing but
good government and good mon in
office, and therefore have no iasne over
which to oontend: a unmber of repre
■amative business men took upon
themselves the responsibility of oalling
a mast meeting of tbe oitizens of Bruns
w<ck for tbe purpose of nominating
an aldermanic tioket to be voted for
at the munioipal election on December
10th., that would meet with approval;
that would be above reproaoh from the
standpoint ot both character and capa
pility; and that would, therefore, save
tbe oity from the harsh and bitter
dissension u.ualiy attendant upon a
political campaign. With this end in
vtew, a mass.meeting was called to
woioh all tbe oitirens of Branswiok
were invited and urged to attend, The
reeult of this meeting was the nomi
nation of an aldermanic tioket compos-
A. L. FRANKLIN,
W.S, TAYLOR,
ed of Messrs. W. B. Cook, M. Kaiser,
A. V. Wood and A. L. Franklin. Mr.
Wood declined to aooept this nominat
ion, aad a subsequent meeting of
oitizens substituted tbe name of Mr.
W. 8. Taylor for that of Mr. Wood.
These meeting were oalled in good
faith. They were attended by a large
number of our beat oitizens. They
represented the business interests of
our city. They were nominated by no
olique, ring or faction. They were not
run by politicians, bat by our best
business men. Tbe leaders of the
faotlon known as the “Law and Order
League" were urged to attend these
meetings and unite with other good
citizens in the harmonious adjustment
of faotional differences. Many of the
most prominent citizens belonging to
that organization did attend these
meetings, participated in them, and are
now endorsing the action there taken.
Borne of them who were dissatisfied on
aooount of their failure to control the
■eoood meeting repudiated its action
and subsequently nominated another
tioket.
Yotir suppirt for tbe tioket compos
ed of Messrs. Cook, Kaiser, Taylor and
Franklin is invited upon the following
grounds:
It stands for unanimity of notion on
the part of all good citizens in an ef
fort to lay aside factional feeling and
join the prooession of progress.
It is oomposed of intelligent, oapable,
progressive, honorable men, who re
gard publio office ss a publio trust.
It is oomposed of men wbo cannot be
controlled in the interest of any olique
or ring, hut who will administer publio
affairs solely for the public good.
The gentlemen on this ticket, while
they de not advooate tbe reinearnation
of the ancient “Blue Laws’* of Connec-
all stand, and for many years
have stood both by precept and exam
ple, for the observance of law and the
preservation of order.
They represent the business men of
the city and have been nominated by
business men who have a stake in the
welfare of the city, rather than by a
faction willing to venture tbe whole
future upon one narrow idea peouliar
to themselves.
Upon these grounds your oordial
anpport for the business men’s tioket is
solicited, and it is urged that you not
only cast your ballot in its favor, bet
that you also exert your influence with
your friends to tbe same end.
Mass Meeting.
A mass meeting of the
citizens of Brunswick is
called to meet at the city
hall tomorrow, Monday,
night at 7.30 AH who are
interested in the welfare of
the city are requested to be
present.

POLITICAL RUMORS.
Will J. M. Smith Be Boomed for Governor
of Georgia?
Atlanta, Deo, 7.—Political rumors
arc floating around fast. And they
are arising because so many politicians
are in town. Hon. J, M. Smith. Hon.
J. M. Terrell, Ho ", Tope Brown, Hon-
Fleming G, dußignon, and Hon. E.
T. Brown met in the office of Gover
nor Candler yesterday afternoon.
This big conference set the politicians
to talking and they have been talking
ever since,
And yesterday afternoon It was
reported that Pope Brown and Jim
Smith held a lengthy conference in the
office of tbe railroad commission. To
day the question is bsing asked,
“What means this conference?" Is it
tbat Jim Smith is going to be in the
race for governor, or does it mean that
Pope Brown has agreed to retire?
1 hear tbat Pope Brown has been
promised reappointment as railroad
oommissionerwben his present term ex
pires if be does not run for the place.
Then I hear another crowd is going
to make an effort to get Jim Smith, J.
11. Estili, and Henry G, Turner in the
mix-up against Joe Terrell, so ns to
send tbe delegates to tbe convention
about evenly divided. But it is possi
ble to bear almost anything hero now.
Still, as I have said all along, the olos
ing day* of the legislature are always
the moat interesting and tbe polltioal
men Hook here from all sections of the
country.
All of them seem to be anxious to get
into the sohemee that are being ar
ranged, and nobody seems to desire to
get left.
