Kaiser, W. B. Cook, A. L. Franklin and W. 8 Taylor. It was very generally expected that thia ticket would win. and the only surprising feature of the election is the etreagth shown by tha other tlekst as a whole. It was thought some of tbs candidates on it would get a good vote but it was not oxpeoted that the entire ticket would develop so tnuoh strength. Not buaause the gentlemen ccmpoaing it were not good atdarmauio timber, hat on account of their being nomine atedby a faction which split off from the original movement for harmony, and bsoauss they were not running on •s broad a platform as their suooessful opponents. The election was one of the quietest municipal contests held In Bramwlck in a long time. There was no exeite moot even at the polls, and a very small number of woiksrs oonstituted all the erowd that was gathered there. A Well Known Dressmaker Beaten to Unconsciousness in Her Bed. Washington, I>ec. 10, —Mrs, Ada Gil: bert Dennis, • fashionable dressmaker, was found in almost a dying condition in her room at 5 a m today under clr oumetanoes that promise to rival tbs Bonlne murder case. Her skull was fraotured, her jawbone broken, and her left ear almost severed from her head, Her left arm bore brui-.es iudioative of a struggle and her clothing and bed ding where saturated with blood, She was removed to the Garfield hospital and a large force of deteotfves wore put on the case. The name of her as sailant Is unknown. When found Mrs. Dennis was clad in bar night garments and was in bad under cover. She was partly oooscious, although she has been uneonacioui most of the time since. An operation was performed on Mrs. Dsnafs this afternoon and there is ■light hope of her recovery. The present board of aldermen have done much to improve the fiuanoial condition of Brunswlok daring the past year, and this work will be taken up and oontinaed by the new ooanoil, the new members of which are in per* feet aoourd with the hold-over mem* bera and it will be a good working body. The people of Brnnswiok are ta be congratulated upon the resalt of be eleotion. PLENTY OF BOERS LEFT Kitchener Reports Many Killed and Captured. London, Dec. 10—Lord Kitchener, reports the eranit of the week’s work at 31 Boers killed, 17 wounded, and 352 made prisoners; 35 surrendered and quantites of supplies wore eaptured. The Boers are still in foroe in the ex treme west of Cape Colony, Stabbed and Killed on Train. Atlanta, Deo. 10.—In a desperate fight on a paesenger train ooming into Atlanta this morning Thomas Collins, a merchant of Sheltouvill, Ga., stabbed and killed James Picroe, a farmer Col lins is badly wounded In the thoat and bead. The fight created a panio among the pasaengera. The oonductor, with the aid of two men, separated the two men, but too late to prevent the death of Fieroe, Collins was taken off at Doraville where he is now under the oars of physicians. Atkinson has sold his one-third Interest in the Atlsnta Journal to John 8. Cohen and Morton Smith. Some days ago there was a movement to Start anew after* noon paper with Cohen nod Smith at the head, Cohen resigning from The Journal.
