At present tbs only outlet for these boats to the ooean is at Darien, the moutb of tbe Altamaha river, at wbiob point they can make no oonneotion with New York steamers, as none touch there. The result is that these boats endeavor to get to Rronswiok where they oan make their New York oonneotione. but tbe only way they can get to Bruns wick is through St. Simon eonnd, which is too rongb for them, and sev eral of them have beeu lost in the sound. Geptain Gillette, engineer in charge of the Savannah district, eay* it le entirely feasible to oonneot the Altamaha river with Brunswick by an Ineid* route that will not coat more than SB,OOO. Ae says tbat he baa been over tbe route, and all that la neces sary to be done ie to oonneot Planta tion and Oinb creeks which oan be done for tbat earn. It ie Representative Brantley’s deeire to do away with the oallmg for a survey preliminary to having tble work done, aa tbe survey is nnneoessary end would only delay tbe work a year or two longer. It hr been oaitumery to require such prr liminary survey.
