It was a maxim wilh the dip].' ts of the An cient Regine that a snuff box was man’s beat allay In that work of “concealing his thoughts” in which Tallyrand maintained, the usefo ness of speech chiefly consisted. But the man of today cares not to con ceal but rather to collect his th nights, and his best allay is Chase & Sanborn’s Seal Brand Coffee. It snarpens his wits, quickens his perception; and maKes him twice as clever. Many a man dates his popu larity in conversation from the day he began uping Seal Brand coffee. DECEMBER 28, 1901 ■n ii rnnin Will Probibly Be Promi nent Wlite Mae Yesterday's Issue of (be Savannah Press oontained a long artiole about the next oo'leotor of that port. The gist of (he article i* a* follow!: It appears (o be pretty certain that the next .oolleotor of the port will be a prominent white oitlien; in fact, it is tbonght the next oolleotor has praoti oally bieo named. The present in oumbent has several months to serve. It has beeo known f>r some time thet prominent gentlemen in Georgia had addressed President Roosevelt upon the adv'sibility of making a first class appointment for tbe position of oolleotor of port at Savannah. In many respects this is considered the first Federal appointment in dig nity and emolument in ths state It probably pays more than any position in the government service in Georgia and the aiz* and cb&rsoter of the oitj of Savannah make It advisable that a strong appointment should be made. It is known here that Major J, E. Hanson of Macon and Colonel A. R, Lawton have taken this matter up with the president, and it la believed that t a is in thorough sympathy with tbe ides. It is understood that ha has told friends wbo have nailed upon him about the matter bis general ideas and that they tally with this view. The president is known to be fearless, olean, and oonsoientious, and is desi rous of making auoh a floe appoint* men! to tbe oustom house of Savannah that his administration will be pot in the right light before tbe people of tbe sontb. It is known that a gentleman on the Bay, who was appro&ohed to be a cn didate for tbe position, was in no way an officeseeker. He is said to be one of the most promineat business men in Savannah, who was very much sur prised when he was informed that the president bad an idea of appointing him to this position. The same of Colonel Thomas S. Wylly is mentioned as probable col leotor; also tbat of Hr. John R. Young and Colonel Belrne Gordon. All of these are active and prominent busi ness men, not in politics, I. and 0. To Sell Through Tickets. I). m HTBACHKN A CD., Consin—g. ■ nr njiii 0 Appears to Be an As serei Fact The Timas-Call has learned from in disputably good authority that Bruns wick is to million dollar sugar refinery soon. Tbe company that will build and operate tbe refinery is to be incorporated under the laws of New Jersey, but looal as well as eastern capi tal will be invested. We learn that among the stockholders will be same of tbe most prominent capitalists and business men of tbis oity. At present we oan give no further particulara oonoerning this big Tenter prise, We can say, however, that we kDow it will materialize, and tbit at no distant time. Of course, the benefit to Brunswick and this entire section of the state by the establishment of a sugar refinery here will be very great indeed, Sugar oane is one of the surest crops, one that never fails, and a crop that is par-' ticularly adapted to our soil and cli* mate. Without a refinery to buy their product and turn it into augur tbe farmers only plant what they can make into syrup themselves, and as it is im possible in that way to get a uniform grade of syrup.tbere is not much to be made out of sugar cane. With a sugar refinery at their very doors, however, all this will be ohanged and muoh larger orops of oane oan be disposed of. .n Besides all this the building of a re finery will mean work for more men and a big increase in tbe volume of Brunswick’s export business, j V'.
