A GENEROUS ACTION
The Best Way To Treat Railroad
Employes
Glkieral Manager Haines, of the
Plant system, has voluntarily' ad
vanced the pay of conductors from
SBO to SIOO per month.
Referring to this the Thomasville
Times Enterprise says:
‘■lt has been said that corporations
have no souls, that they arc grasping
selfish and heartless. This is not
always the case. This is a case in
point. This generous action of the
management of the Plant system is
highly appreciated by the gentlemen
whose salaries have been advanced.
And the system will not lose any
thing by it. Every man sharing in
the advance will feel that he owes
the company his very best service.
And the company will get it. While
strikes ami other troubles are an
noying many railroad systems, the
Plant system, by genorous, fair
treatment us its employes has never
had any serious trouble. And Low
much better this is.”
Our prescription department is as

A False Alarm.
An alarm of file was turned on
from box 42 situated at the corner
of Gloucester and Cochran streets
near the East Tennessee railroad. It
was a false alarm, though, and was
turned ou by Chief Keller to test the
efficiency of the fire department.
The run was made in two minutes
ami twenty seconds—a remarkably
good record.
Chief Keller wishes the people to
stand on the side walk and clear the
streets when alarm of tire is heard
as it is exceedingly dangerous to
Kock the streets to be passed over
the department.
Remember we don't advertise one
thing and mean another. Read our
“ad and call on us for bargains.
