Hurrah for the Glynn Gun Club. In the language of the poet, “it gets there with both feet.” 11.I 1 . I- !,J The committee sent to Atlantic City to inspect the West system of sewerage returned this morning and with one or two changes favor the system. The city council acted wisely in sending this committee to look into this very important work which is soon to be undertaken, It was a sensible, businesslike way to see what they were going in’o. New York hus a cigarette law somewhat similar to the one in Geor gia, but in that state as well as in this, it is to a great extent a failure. The small boy will manage to get cigarettes and smoke them in spite of all that has been done. New York will try another line of attack on the cigarette. On and after September Ist any boy found smoking who is apparently under 16 years of age, will be arrested and lined from $2 to $lO. It remains to be seen how this law will work. Albany wants u union passenger depot and the News and Advertiser is stirring the 'railroads up on the subject No city in Georgia needs or deserves a union passenger depot more than Brunswick. The two railroads entering the city arc well patronized and the depot aecommoda tions furnished by them are simply a disgrace to the railroad companies and to the city of Brunswick. There was some talk at one time of the roads building such a depot, but the matter seems to have died ont alto gether. The Post knows no one thing that will add more to Bruns wick than a first-class Union Passen ger Depot. THE SOUTH’S POPULATION. Notwithstanding the fact that im migration has added over 5.200,006 foreigners to our population during the last ten years, none of whom have settled in the South except in very rare cases, and that the great industrial development of this see tion. with its attendant southward trend of men and money, only com menced a few years ago, the Soutk wakes a fine showing of populaliot in 1890 compared with 1880 The preliminary census report givu the population of the Soulheir States as follows InmO. No one knew anything definite of her anil she herself could | render no account of her distress. *„ | Rats were holding high carnival in j ! the dark cellar, having gnawed the | poor creatures hair off. Her limbs also had been gnawed by the rodents, ; ! She was removed to the hospital 1 where she will be eared for. * * * * * 1 The confederate veterans home in Atlanta will be completed in abont ’ live weeks. This is the grandest of all benevolent institutions tii the south and it was intended to be the ( home of those who, indigent and de crepidt now, spent the brightest and best portion of their lives in the de < I sense of home and liberty. The ■ question of the maintaincnce of this grand institution is now being con-1 C sidered by the committee appointed ! by President W L Calhoun, compos- ' ed ofCapt. W I> Ellis and Messrs. ' Nelson Tift, W D Smith, S M In i I man and Dr. Amos Fox. There are : 120 acres of land attached to the i home and this will be cultivated for J J . the benefit of the inmates of the ■ i home. , — A Chattanooga justice of the: , peace has entered u libel suit for $25,000 against the Times of that : , city. The Squire is red hot against i. the Times for certain charges made j ( against him which he says are un true. How easy it is for newspapers ’ to get into trouble. A new Odd Fellows lodge will be organized tonight ninety-two I ■ charter members. This will give, r Brunswick two good lodges of this j * deservedly popular order ahd is but • another evidence of the phenomenal | growth %f the city. > Does Advert isi tig Pay? This is a very important question to I business men, and ojjo that only busi i ness men can answer. We have the | , assurance from thousands of them who largely advertise that it does pay, if ju e diciously pursued, and ninny of them e have given their testimony in its fa vor. If the reader will taka up any of e the city papers from day to day' for | years, he will find the columns filled with the announcements of leading i business houses. They' do not come be fore the public at long intervals, but regularly, daily, changing their ad vertisements with the variation in their stocks, qualities and prices of goods, p thui not only attracting attention to what they have to sell, but arousing £ the desire of buyers to examine what o is offered, thus making customers and ' 1 popularizing these places of business. t This class of men will tell you in this day of conqietitiou that it would be impossible to do business or secure any '1 flung like an average trade if they did i not invite custom by giving in detail a jj cleai' statement of what they have got i to sell. ' i Ou the other hand, thousands of 1 ' men who have startisl in business with s fair capital, plenty of push and a n knowledge of trade have gone to the . wall simply because they “hid their ( light* under a bushel,” in failing to .compete with their neighbor* in hav ing the buying public know where „ they were, whut they were selling and what inducements they hail to offer. •i A man may have the last stock of goods in the market, but if lie fail* to J invite custom or make know n the in j duceincnte he <-uu offer he is sure to I drop behind in the race, while bi* < I sharpi r neighbor is reaping a rich bar vest Kxciiauga.
