ROOSTER AND PARROT.
THIS MODfcKN' FOKM YOU’LL FIN’D IM A MINI TF.
HAS MORE TRUTH TUAN POETRY IN IT.
There was a little rooster,
Not very long ago,
Who thought he was a booster,
You’d ought to hear him crow.
He noticed when he hallooed
Tne sun lust iu the sky.
Said he: “It thinks I called it.
And that’s the reason why.”
His head was high And empty.
His craw was full of gall.
He strutted around the hen-coop
Aud thought he knew it all
When older birds, and wiser.
Who had seen a thing or two.
Raised their bends and tried, sir;
“Their cock—a-doodle-do!”
He .■'Wore he could not l>ear ft,
And shook his head with viin.
He called each one a “parrot.
Who dared to crow, but him.
The earth he claimed before him,
A far as he could see,
Its creatures should adore him.
And bend the supple knee.
No ben should laugh and cackle.
Nor should old Chanticleer
W ith sturdy voice and mettle.
King oat his lusty cheer.
The little rooster knew not.
But thought to his subcase:
11 he held back and crew not,
Bun, earth and stars would cease.
His cheek grew as he nursed it,
His pride was on the well,
TUI bis gall-bladder bursted
And all his feathers fell.
They took his body dusty.
Out tow’rd the garbage heap,
And from the ahovel lustY
They tossed bun down to sleep,
you'd st-firce belie vr if.
hr uorhl went rigid along.

The folio i.ig conversation which

kecncrs was over heard this morning
by a Post reporter •
Mrs. Fitzgerald.—“O, J declare I
do not know where to buy good i
groceries, there is always something
short or spoiled.”
Mrs. Scott.—“ Why my dear, wej
iave been trading with Jones A
apers at the corner of Monk and
■Jrant streets ever since Baumgart
icr moved his meat market; we al-;
vays get full weight and the very I
list of groceries. All 1 have to do
s send an order by the cook and the
foods are in the kitchen time enough
.o get dinner. Speaking abouti
jroceries makes me think-of those
lib cans of butter I get from this
-tore, they keep it so nice ami fresh
ind I dec'are it sa' cs me so much
trouble as to melting and leaking as
was the case when it was sent to me
in trays, I shall always trade with
Jones & Capers.”
Mrs. F.—“ Well I shall begin to
trade with Jones <t Capers too. I
am very mm h obliged to you foi<
telling me of them. I must be going
now. when are you coining over to
sec me?”
Mrs. S.—“lna few days—but let
me tell you something else. Junes <V
Capers will do. They will send out
and get what you order even it they
should happen to be out of it. This
you know is a great convenience and
saves you the trouble of sending all
over town.”
Mrs. F.—“ Yes indeed I think 1
will walk by their place and see them
now.”
