Jhe management will esteem it a special favor if this re- 1 quest is complied with. Consistency is just as much a jewel in Georgia as it is in France. One more day, and 10, the season for the toothsome oyster is upon us. It was a pity' those who had to ‘climb the greasy pole last night had on their best clothes. The supreme court of the United States is praying congress for relief. Exchange. Congress should pension it and let it go. Brunswick has a few young men who have recently learned what their fathers have long taught them, 1 “that appearances are oftentimes deceitful.” They wilt agree with a gentleman who lived some years ago in Eugland and who wrote this fa miliar proverb, ‘‘all is not gold that glitters.” ! Fok some reason never yet ex- 1 plained, cholera infests the followers of Mahomet more than anybody else. ( The disease is raging in Japan, car- f lied thither by Turkish vessels. ( With the bad drainage of Asiatic cities the pestilence is sweeping some of them with a terrible des 1 traction. 1 -—■ c In the Savannah Morning News of * yesterday there were thirteen para graphs under the heading, “Georgia 8 Thrift." Three of these paragraphs c related new enterprises and growing 1 interests in Brunswick. In tact the growth and enterprise of this city is so well known that one can scarcely * read any newspaser without seeing • something good about Brunswick. ! Brunswick now has two strong lodges of Odd Fellows. They need |j a lodge room and should take steps ( at once to own a building and pro vide in it a room especially adapted to the workings of the order. There o are several \vays this may be done d and The Post hopes soon to an- d nounce the active preparation for the work. ii u In the declaration of principles & published by’ the Personal Rights jt league |the basis of them all is a statement that the productive forces now' in existence are abundantly capable of supplying all the reason able wants of all the people. What is needed is that these forces be J properly organized and distributed. 23 that one man will not commitsui , cide becouse he cannot find work. while another ha* an income of hull I a million u year, and is hardly put to 1 , it to devise ways to si>end it all. The y league believe* that the system <rf' u <-*M>perstne ownership will do away r with both the and these j liMxpjsjities of fortune. * j HOW TO RUN A NEWSPAPER. Among the suggestions sent to tl c Atlanta Journal a.-, to the best wi.y lo run a newspaper the folllowitig is quite apte; a littie humorous per haps but at the same time full of good sense: “Nobody knows how to run a newspaper and a sawmill but the man who hasn.t tried. I'll tell you confidentially. “Dress it up in the best that taste and tin can afioml, and run it for' money and fun. “That's what the world runs for,' and the newspaper that don’t, gets 1 left. “Run it from the inside. The only page that needs to be edited from the outside is the advertising page ami correspondent’s column, and both these should be sifted and sing ed to fit. “It needs individuality, character, and such clear cut lines of policy that nothing can swerve—so people know what’s coming. “It must lead, direct or follow I public sentiment. The first takes] genius, the next judgement, the last abuse. “People must depend on it. An i old Baptist farmer when asked his; views on a national question said:! ‘When my ‘Examiner’ conies I’ll tell ] you.” That’s business. “It must be exactly fair and indis 1 criminate. Why torment ninety nine women by picturing the belle of i the town with a ‘pied’ mouth and bald head, according as the ink gets spread? “Politics are different. Everybody knows who ought to get there; but the newspaper should sore higher, only dipping its wings in the brine, for stimulation. “Tender to human frailties, true to human aspirations, truthful in fact, enterprising in purpose, the newspaper is the best friend—but don’t excite a dog light into half a column of head liqes.” “But no.” GEORGIA BRIEFS.
