•
There was a little rooster.
Not very long ago,
Who thought he was a booster.
You’d ought to hear him crow.
lie noticed when he hallooed
Tuc sun luce in the sky.
Said he: “It thinks I called it.
And that’/the reason why.”
Hie head was high and empty,
His craw was full of gall.
c strutted around the hen-coop
And thought he knew it all
* hen older birds, and w i«*cr,
Who had seen a thing or two.
Raised their heads and tried, sir;
“Their cock—a-dcodle-do
He swore he could not bear it.
And shook his head with vim.
He called each one a “parrot,
Who dared to crow, but him.
The earth he claimed before him,
A far a* he could toe.
Its creatures should adore him.
And bend the supple knee.
No hen should laugh and cackle.
Nor should old Chanticleer
W ilh sturdy voice and mettle,
• King ont his lusty cheer.
The little rooster knew’ not.
But thought to his surcease;
ii hr held back ami crew not,
Sun, earth ami stars would cease.
li« k grew .1- hr nur-vd it.

THE LABORERS WANT NINE IIOL’RF. | (
DILLON IS WITH THEM. —WHAT jl
HE HAS TO SAY. C
I
On Monday the laborers will con- 11
tend for nothing but their absolute
rights.— A working man should not
work more than eight or nine hours A
a day. It is too much, I have been
! there myself, and know what 1 am ,
| talking about. If the eight and
’ nine hour law will work satisfactorily ■
I in the north, west and cast, why will
'it not do good in the south, and
I Brunswick in particular. Every
thing is high enough here. I refer to
prieeof building and work of all kinds
as well as groceries, dry goods, shoes i
and every article that is bought, sold
or manufactured in Brunswick. So
on .Monday I will begin to let the
boys down kinder gently, so to speak.
I am going to go down on prices a
' little bit lower, As you know, 1 have
always been cheaper than any other,
store in Brunswick for the same class
' of goods. I can afford to do this, a s
. it is a well known fact that 1 only
credit such people as 1 can collect
out of, whether they want to pax’ or
not. In other words they must have
property, or give godd sCL'iifity. 1
1 sell too close to take chances. My .
motto has always been boiled down |
in these two magic words:—‘‘Luder .
buy,‘then Under seii” anybody, at any I
and all times. Paving a large
capital at my command, I take ad
vantage of a)| bargains, and buy
, largely when goods are cheap, and
give ray customers the advantage
when prices go up.
; 1 give you a few prices to show
you whore I stand.
PRICES FOR MONDAY, SEP. IST.
Fresh Sugar Corn, new and tender,
2 cans for 15 cents.
Red, ripe Tomatoes, full weight,
2 cans for 15 cents.
Good table Butter, only 25 cents
a pound.
Best Patent Flour, only 80 cents a
sack, (does your grocer sell at these
prices?)
And every article in the grocery line
is at the same reduction. I intend
I to sell you your goods whether you
want to buy from me or not.
It is to your interest to s:ue all
you can, and my store is the only
one that oilers any kind of induce- .
inents to you. .
Remember I am the original and
ionly cheap cash grocery house.
I The othei are all line and fancy
grocers. '1 hey don’t want to bother
with working people, (like I do.) but ;
wish to eater to an aristrociatie j 1
dead beat pay when-you can class.
Life is too short for me to work for
nothin’, and there is no music so
sweet on earth to me, as the click of <
the real omnipotent coin. 1 mean |
business, 1 want your trade. I will
■ sell you cheaper, and give you better
| goods, (1 have all kinds, from the
best to the cheapest) better satisfac
tion and quicker delivery, as 1 run
i two delivery wagons, when you buy i
goods from me, and want them for
.dinner, you will get them without
fail. 1 never disappoint. Don't let
anyone fool you by making out that
they will undersell me. 1 have as!
much at stake as theyhave. They can’t
do it. 1 pay cash for my goods and '
every article 1 sell increases my stock. ,
They sell on credit, and what they J
loose on a dead beat they hope to j j
make upon you, and will, if you
don't watch them. For your own ■ J
satisfaction come and try my store'
for one or two bills, and convince;
yourself that I can do that which I j
claim, and you will always trade
with me. 1 seldom lose a customer
and to show you how my business 1
has grown in the last month. I have J
added thirty four regular cash cus ■
( turners to my daily visiting list for *
my wagons.
W ill you forsake the old path and
go with me for a short while, and see 1
how satisfactorily it works? l(
Most respectfully,
John H. Dillon*, i.
