FRIDAY’S FINDINGS. To-days Doings Briefly Paragraphed By a Post Reporter. The pa who canies the babe at night All throiigh the hou-.e h x! back Is apt to speak this sentence ♦♦ !! *t t * when He st mis upon a tack. The. street railroad has been do ing a rushing business for the past week. The brokers of Brunswick com plain that business is in a most quiet condition. The mad dog mentioned in Wed nesday’s issue of The Post was killed this morning. Real estate continues to advance. Il was only a few days ago that cer tain New Town lots advanced from S3OO to S4OO. Messrs, Lamb and Turner, livery men, have reduced hack fare from fifty to twenty five cents. Other liverymen will doubtless follow suit. The sale of fish is becoming quite an industry in Brunswick. Several licences have been recently granted parties desirous of entering the bus iness. Mr. Busbee, the fruit dealer, re ceived some very fine Kalamazoo cel ery this morning. It is the first of the season and is going like hot cakes. Many compliments are being paid Hon. J. E. Dart for the very efficient work he is doing for the citj’ in his official capacity of superintendent of public works. The Mallory line steamer, State of Texas, arrived from Fernandina this morning. She sailed for New York this afternoon with a large cargo of cotton. Don’t forget the meeting of Rush Lodge, No. 48, I. O. O. F., tonight. The meeting will be held in the K. of I*. hall, and much important busi ness will be transacted. The rain for the past few days has interfeared with contractors and em ployes, who are engaged on the vari ous houses throughout the city that are now in conrse of erection. There is great, complaint being made about the amount of broken glass on the sidewalks all ever the city. The authorities will doubtless examine into the matter at once. Yesterday afternoon's East Tenn essee train, due at 5:05, did not ar rive until 7 o’clock. The delays on that road yesterday were occaisoued by the wreck which was meuti med in yesterday’s Post. Very Fine Indeed. It'those who love a good thing will go down to Mr. L. P. Wilson, the Bay street grocer, and buy a gallon of that 3 year old White Scupper nong” Wine, they w<ll continue to make the same visit every time the jug is empty. Nothing adds more to a good din ner than a good glass of wine, and it is healthy 100, espscially this “white scuppernong.” Very few, perhaps, know that Mr. Wilson keeps the wine, but be does keep it, and the reporter who writes this can vouch for its excellsney: he has tried it.J Go down and get a jug. In Police Circles. Policeman Ketterer and Gill have been suspended from the force. That was the action of the police comtniisioners yesterday. Ketterer was an extra officer while Gill was a regular. The charges prefered was drunkenness. Ilisnotyet known who will fill the vacancy caused by the suspen sion of these officers. For present, Captain Ivey is acting an etxra. • New Livery Stable. Attention is directed to the ad vertisement of Lamb <fc Turner, who have just opened up at the corner of E and 11 streets a feed, sale and liv ery {stable. They will keep first class teams, careful drivers ami solicit a share of the public patronage. - «*• iVlicn your rent comes due and you cannot pay, call on the Brunswick Loan Company, Newcastle st reef. « • w Children’s Gingham and Gilico Dresses in all varieties and prices the lowest of low' at the Palais Royal. A Prominent Physician Gives His His Opinion of the Greatest Evil Existing in Our Coun try.-Other News- A Post reporter, while in conver sation with a gentleman, who stands on.the top round of the medical pro fession, was asked by him: “What do you consider the greatest evil ex isting in this country at the present time?” The reporters mind was not clear on the subject and the doctor con tiuued: “Well, there is a great deal said now about the evils existing in the country. Some think one thing the greatest evil and some another. As every one :s entitled to his own opin ions, and as they are free to express the same, I will tell you what I consider the great eyil or trouble of this country. “In this grand common wealth we have about a sufficient number of chinches, and other places of relig ious worship, to seat one fourth the population of the country. We will also find that the churches are bare ly able to accommodate their respec tive memberships. Now it does seem that enough people could become in terested in the worship of God to till the churches to then- utmost capac ity one da}- in the week. But this is not the ease by any means, except on some evtraordinary occassion you will never find more than one third i and it is not a rare thing that you will find only about one sixth, of the seating capacity of the churches taxed. “Now the question is asked, ‘why is this?’ Do the ministers make themselves such bores as to drive the people away? Are they so un godly that the church members can’t afford to attend ‘.heir services? No; this is not the case one time in- live thousand. A great deal of trouble lies in the fact that a great number of the church membership of the" country think they have contributed enough toward their salvation when they pay their church dues and lend the minister a.horse and buggy to visit some sick or afflicted member of the flock. They’ are honestly of the opinion that this is the only re quisite way to gain an entrance to paradise. “It is my honest opinion that if it wera not for the ladies of our land that churches would soon become extinct. Men do not take the inter- ; est in religion they should take. It| takes a lady to arouse her husband on the Sabbath morning 'and gather the children together to go to church. “There is a growing tendency in the South, to regard the Sabbath as a day of recreation instead of a day to be devoted to the service of the true and living God. This has not always been the case. Before the war the Sabbath was regarde I m a ; day’ of rest and a day dedicated to God. Since the war, the South has beenj invaded by foreigners and northern infidels, and they are sowing the seeds of faithlessness.” “What will cheek this Sabbath | folly, doctor?” “Well I would suggest that the : legislators take a hand in helping to free our country of this curse. They should make it a felony for any man to violate the Sabbath by doing any labor not necessary’ to be done i on the Sabbath. This would be of, some assistance toward bringing about the desired end.” For Subscription. We will call on the merchants and citizens of Brunswick next week for subscriptions to help us in buy ing uniforms and paying other ex penses incidental to the organization of a military company. We earnest ly hope our friends will respond hb | erally. The Brunswick Cadets. Through negligence we have iomitted to met icn Kalo Cor sets. They never break at the waist nor roll up. I they do, we will < |)curiiilly refund the money. The steels may break, ■ the best of steels have their; limits of strength, but Kabo! has no breaking limit: it doesn't break at all.
